Just like thousand others we blood in Junaid early. Now Kayes!! What has Nafis Iqbal done wrong for the last couple of seasons? He needs to be in the core. He has at least 5/6 years of cricket left in him. Junaid can take the #3 position. I like his approach for that position. Much better than Ash's. True he gets out early and lucky to be in the team but situation given in hand, he is the only solution unless we want to bring more new players or Javed Omar which I disagree.
Bowling, we knew (spinners) would get a heavy beating at SA. Most unfortunate of Shahadat not bowling and thinking.
BCB is not going to change their stance against ICL. So no point discussing what if situation.

batting line-up is pretty set imo in terms of who is to start. the team is short a bowler though, imo a pacer so that means dropping either junaid or imrul but the rest stay. so you have:
1 tamim
2 junaid/imrul
3 ash
4 raqibul
5 shakib
6 naeem
7 rahim
8 mash
9 razzak
10 robin/shahadat
11 rasel
imo ash can bat anywhere from 2 to 6 really, i'm not sure that it would make much of a difference because he's already so inconsistent. tamim stays at opener but junaid or imrul could bat 1st drop if someone else was to open with tamim e.g. ash. raqibul i like at 4 but he can be tried at #3, if he can become an effective #3 then imo it's better for BD because naeem and shakib are batting lower than they should be imo. mushy is at 7 because i don't see him currently as an option at #3 and the only other open position in the order is the 2nd opener position and i don't see him batting there either. naeem and shakib shouldn't bat any lower than they currently are, i'd like both to be at 4 but you can only have one player batting there and due to batting style it's better that naeem and shakib bat a bit lower rather than raqibul (which is why it would be good if raqib can become a good #3 because then naeem and shakib can move up the order and ash can drop down the order which would suit everyone better imo).
but if you want team stability then you don't want to change the batting order too much from what it is now which means go with the line-up i listed above, if you don't mind changing a few things around then look at the other options mentioned e.g. ash opening or dropping down to #6 with raqib batting 3 and shakib and naeem moving up to 4 and 5.

If he has not done anything wrong, he has not done much right either. While technically deficient batsmen like Imrul topped the lists in domestic leagues regularly, NI is not even a regular in top ten. He is not a good oneday batsman to begin with.

Yeah, even with the runs that he's scored in the NCL this season, Iqbal's performance has been pretty disappointing. If you're going to play tests, you really need to "score out of the box" and try and hit that 50 average in the NCL. The fact that none of the current national team players is good enough to do that isn't an excuse. We should really look to raise the bar for new comers/"comer backers" to the national team if we are going to raise the overall quality of our main squad gradually.

problem is the talents don't always top the NCL lists, it's often the guys who have already been labeled as not good enough, useless or constantly failed at the international level when given the opportunity. and i agree that the fact that the national players can't do it isn't an excuse, we have to remember international cricket is a much different animal to BD domestic cricket at the current stage. domestic cricket in BD is such a massive drop in standard that it would actaully take the nationals a bit of time to re-adjust to the poor standard of domestic cricket, not that it's really an excuse but it's something that has to be noted. players who are always in the NCL don't have to re-adjust so that's an adavantage they get and that's one reason why we should expect good performances from them, they face this stuff all the time so they should be able to handle it.
