Observation about Bashar and Ashraful
Is it just me or do you guys also think that Bashar and Ashraful play their best when they're in their natural attacking mode ? I've never seen Bashar do well defensively, and same can be said about Ashraful (although they both have good defense) ..
thanks.

well...yes...a pretty safe comment. i'd love to see them score big playing cautiously when required. unfortunately, they don't seem to have that capability. Ash has time to learn, but bashar does not and he can be really rash and inidfferent to the situation at times, which is bad when you consider the fact that he's one of the senior members of the side.

Ashraful has played several very good grafting innings. Remember the 105 balls single digit score in Srilanka?

I agree.
Ash recently showing that he cannot score in defensive mode - even though he had some big scores playing defensively years back.
I think also Aftab falls into same category.

they both are attacking player as nafis. But Nafis was able to alter his style according to the need in this test

ash can do it...in the asia cup few months back...bangladesh were 30 odd for 4 and ashraful put in a 120 ball 66. this helped bring BD to a modest 190 at the end of the innings. ash is just out of form. lets see what he does in the ODIs.

That tells me thet most likely will avoid "Ashraful" syndrome and perform more even with his not so perfect technique and much less talent than Ash.
I never cared for Gullu that much ebven though loved his determination. And now some credit need to be given to Gullu to mold Nafis more like a test opener.

That was no good grafting innings for a specialist batsman, if he were a #10 or #11 batsman, then he would get bravo for that

It can happen to the very best. Yes, he needs to be more consistent. Don't get so down on him.

Ash can graft pretty well if he wants. You don't have to go that far back. Look at his 60* against India in the first test as all else around him fell apart.

But what about the Mindset?
A very good point raised... lets extend the list bit further:
Bashar...Ashraful...Nafees even upto an extent...Aftab as well..
To be more accurate, these current set of players are possibly most potential to become COMPLETE BATSMEN. The reason I am using the word ‘Complete’ is their skill on wide range of strokeplays. A batsman of real CLASS, probably, posses some dominant qualities somewhat like these:
*Comfortable & Solid Defense
*Totally Spontaneous REFLEX
*Skill of Working the ball around plus Clean Placement/Timing of the ball when he plays a STROKE
*Finally, and most importantly, the MINDSET to understand the need of the SITUATION with extreme patience & the NERVE to respond to it accordingly!!
So many of us may think that Bashar/Ash is pretty poor in ‘Defensive’ mode but I would disagree on that, because both of them already have shown their ability to build ‘Confident & Solid Innings’ atleast on few occasions.
But the reason that they are not ‘Complete Class Batsmen’ yet... is definitely the lack of the MINDSET to build their innings through any & all situations. So far, none of our batsmen have really shown this Character of nerves consistently enough, unfortunately! But they do play upto their potential and yet upto the demand of the situations sometimes, only occasionally ... one example of that can be the very recent 121 by Nafees himself.
Personally, I believe, that a batsman can only be remarkable if he has a combination of techniques of Defense+Strokes+Strike-Rotating-Capability... but the whole combination only works when the MINDSET to apply it is also there..
These(Bashar/Ash/Nafees/Aftab.. and few more to come from the juniors) are good talented players... no doubt... but Its probably a matter of Time & Experience that they MATURE up with the mentality to become more COMPLETE... and that experience is more related to their ‘Match-background’ rather then just ‘Age’.

Thanks crickethorizon
I agree with you and your statement.
It's a fact that Bashar, Ash and Aftab were out cheaply in the last innings trying to settle defensively, but this does not tell everything about them.

Actually, I don't like Ashraful's attitude. Some of his comments are really s h i t. He has to talk less and work very hard to play good innings in evry matches like Rajin.
