Has the best Batting avg(43) outside asia in tests if you count out Sarkar who played only one match

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...s;type=batting

hey what you know..has the best bowling avg in test among bangladeshi's outside asia too

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...s;type=bowling

IN ODIs has the most number of wickets..avg isn't bad enough if you compare with the other BD bowlers

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...s;type=bowling

has the 2nd best batting avg among Bangladesh's who played atleast 20 ODIs outside asia

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...s;type=bowling

He is better in asia than outside? yes he is..but so is 95% of the sub con players. comparing with the likes we have he is the best..not among the best outside asia

His avgs would have been a lot better if he didn't had as much brain farts as he have. criticize him for that.

Sometime I feel you guys will only understand what shakib has done for this team once he is not there anymore. I boil up when he makes those brain farts but he has delivered as well.

I'm pretty sure that the title of this thread is misleading...

'...miserly average of 25...' would mostly be associated with the stats of primarily a bowler.

Seeing Shakib's body language it seems he lacks motivation or losing interest, playing just for the heck of it, as if he achieved everything and has nothing to prove anything to anybody, he has been playing continuously for last few years, takes part in everything that cricket has to offer, from intl to domestics and all franchise leagues, if you keep doing something without taking breaks in between the thrill is lost and it becomes monotonous, I think this is exactly the case with Shakib, I feel he needs a brief hiatus from cricket perhaps after CT, he will come back stronger.

Umm..no I am not, I said here countless times that I don't take warm ups seriously at all let alone making judgements based on them, I have watched quite a few matches before coming to this conclusion, Shakib as per me is exhausted, fatigued and losing interest to do better, this is just my personal observation though, feel free to disagree.

Shakib has been our most successful t20 batsman including world T20s.

I think OP's point is that Shakib has underperformed in ODI tournaments which is reality because the big players are the one who becomes even better in the grander stage.

With Shakib I have been disappointed with his performance in ODI tournaments. But that's because he is a much better player than he performs in these scenarios. This is ofcourse considering that he has played 3 World cups

You aren't too far from the truth.

Shakib when pumped is a different league altogether. In the second test against Lanka he was dominant. He looked like he wanted to destroy the opposition. Guess what before the match he was criticized.

Even in the past Shakib was hungry. Now with all the personal milestones he seem to be lethargic. Infact he is always lethargic but knows how to deliver on the big stage.

If Shakib plays anywhere near his full potential

Agree with Roy....Shak needs a break from cricket - at least three months to spend time with family and friend and the make a fresh start again ->

I agree with Roy..shakib looks demotivated..a motivated shakib is a beast..he was extreamly motivated in Mash's last T20 match..heck the entire team were motivated as hell.

I dont get why these guys need some sort of event like mash's retirement to give their all in the field..isnt playing for ur country enough motivation??

This the reason I have immense respect for kohli even if I hate him as a human being. This guy always feels he is giving 110% for India. His centuries mean something to him..not only individually but also for the country

I totally agree. He is our T20 captain now and most likely will be the ODI captain as well. What else you need for motivation? He proly also earns the most.

Kohli & Smith - I have utmost respect for these 2 for the efforts they put and the hard-work they do. They come to the field only to win matches. The other player who brings that much energy is perhaps Stokes. It's hard to love them on personal level; but they are simply undeniable for their efforts/performance/energy in the cricket field.

A little off topic, but I don't understand why it is so hard to like guys like Smith, Kohli, Warner or Stokes on a personal level, they give their everything on field and supremely competitive which sometimes reflects on their on field behavior, sportsmen all over the world tend to have some swag or arrogance, nothing wrong with that as long as they are backing it up with performance, even with us when we get too dedicated or committed to something, we often end up expressing our emotions and frustrations verbally, cricketers are people just like us neither robots nor acting out of a script, the expressions, emotions that you see are for real, this is professional sports for ffs not some amateurish high school stuff, l for one am no puritan and absolutely adore sportsmen with swag and panache because I can relate to them in some way and they bring that x factor to the game, not fair to expect everyone to behave like Sachin , Misbah or Dhoni.

I don't know what is wrong with some people who talk nonsense about Sakib and Mash when the stats show otherwise.
Just because u dont like some plyers does not mean you talk crap about them.
It just makes u look crap.

Personaly I dont like Koheli,Stokes but that does not mean I will call them overrated or nothing player.

A dive into Shakib's stats outside Asia
England
Batting:
Tests: 4 innings, 52 runs, avg 13.00

T20Is: 6 innings, 71 runs, avg 14.75

ODIs: 2 innings, 2 wickets, avg 57.50
T20Is: 6 innings, 8 wkts, avg 17.12

Comment: only worth mentioning performance was back in 2008 test bowling.

T20Is: 3 innings, 5 wkts, avg 12.80

Comment: stats (speciallt in tests) boosted hugely by playing depleted West Indies side in 2009.
Was good in 2007 WC but not so in recent 2014 tour

Zimbabwe:
Batting:
Tests: 6 innings, 223 runs, avg 37.16

ODIs: 18 innings, 18 wkts, avg 39.05.
T20Is: 2 innings, 6 wkts, avg 6.83

Comment: batting so so but bowling nothing special considering the opposition.

Over all comments: Bar New zealand and a depleted WI side ( you can add zimboks if you are that desperate) Shakib has been way below average outside Asia. In major countries he failed miserably. He wasnt even the best in Babgladeshi standard. Now I refuse to compare him with the likes of Tapash basya.

It would be a non issue if he was just another incapable Bangladeshi player. But he is Shakib Al Hasan. The gap in his performance in Asia and outside is so vast it ought to draw attention. The main reason behind it, is his attitude. When you go outside Asia you gotta adjust, have to show patience, leave few balls at the start. But he wont adjust, because supposedly thats his way of playing. I refuse to accept this excuse. He was a grinder in his early days. Remember 2007 WC? Series against NZ? He used to take the game deep. Even with his bowling he used to fight with his line and length even the wickets had nothing for spinners. Thats what he showed in SA back in 2008, NZ back in 2010. Now a days, he just gives up. Even in Mirpur, if the pitch is in flatter side, he doesnt try.

If you look at Shakib's official thread I have been backing him non conditionally as recent as 6 months ago. But last few years he gives the vibe that he is bigger than the team. No one bigger than the team, No one. England kicked out Pitersen. Shakib is not half the player Pitersen is.

There is another excuse that he is past his prime. He is 30 ffs. Batsmen have their best 5 years between 27-32. And we all know spinners thrieve after 30. He should be peak at his game now with both batting and bowling. With Bangladesh improving leaps and bounds as a side, he is supposed to be the heart of the team. This is supposed to his time to shine and glow after dragging the team for so many years. Instead, all we are getting is attitude. He should not be the captain with his attitude.

Big players up their game in big tourneys, he failed in this aspect till now, lets hope for the team and country's sake he turns up and Play like it means something. End of the day, we will back the 11 players thar take the field but if he fails, which is more likely, expect the knives to come out and rightly so.

Ps: Shakib's recent off form got nothing with this post. I talked against his attitude even when he was scoring double century.

Sample size is still too small for England, Australia and South Africa. Let's see what happens in the champions trophy.
