Why are we batting first?
Why did we bat first when we won the toss in the 1st ODI? We are a terrible batting team and it doesn't matter how good the pitch is. It could be a batting paradise and we would still struggle to make 200. When we bat first and make a low score, we put WAY too much pressure on our bowlers. It is impossible to try to defend a 180 or less score. This causes the bowlers to have no hope and they don't try as hard. If we bowl first, the bowlers know that they can control the match and that all hope is not gone before the first ball is bowled. We have bowlers that can bowl quite well if they have hope. We are much better at chasing scores than being chased. I know that Ashraful has not won the toss much, but when he does, he should never choose to bat first.

lol and what happens when we hand over the first innings on the juiciest batting pitch to the mighty Saffers? 438-2; BD loses by 250 runs.

of course many of us would have differernt opinions here, but ro1249, i was saying the same thing in our forum once smith and gibbs started to bat for a while last time. i think until we become a good, in control batting team we should always choose to field first (if we have a choice with toss). it seems to me that we tend to chase better. i agree with your bowlers' mental analysis as well. but then again if our bowlers are having a bad day a strong batting oposition piles up a huge total and then our batsmen will feel the pressure! this mental weakness thing (don't want to fight anymore, i gave up kind of feeling) seems to be a big problem to me!

yah actually it sounds pretty reasonable to me. maybe in that case they won't go for an early blast, and our spinners could create some pressure later on.
but i really feel bad for Ash. poor guy got out due to bad luck in both tests and the ODIs. tsk.
