Default Age and the Bengali (a slightly nostalgic poll/quiz)

What with Ekushey just around the corner, and the recent thread about Banglish, I thought I'd run a slight nostalgic experiment in the form of a poll. It's rather simple -- how many of us remember the symbol below (no, it's not the Bangla nine)? And how does that correspond with our ages?

Yes, many of you younger members can find out what it is with a little research. But please be honest, and let me know only if you knew it before doing this research. As for those of us who know what the symbol is, I'll humbly ask you not to disclose it for about a week -- only to give the poll enough time to run. Simply check the appropriate box.

Nice thread Shaad. I remember my mother teaching me the alphabet, and it stuck in my mind.
I think the result will be able to answer how the years have dwindled the impact of Bengali education.
Also, 20 years from now how FM channels have impacted Bengali. So, do it again in 20 years.

Unless the Government takes a stand on Banglish. (had the chance & took it)

I remember being confused as a child at its sudden disappearance almost overnight. That, and some deaths in the family, brought home the notion that nothing in the world is permanent.

The poll looks perfectly bimodal so far. This is really interesting. A few dynamics at work here

a) the dynamics of the draw of the age of people here in BC
b) the dynamics of their knowledge evolution
c) how a and b correlates
d) How the above three dependencies may be made independent by post procesing

This is quite deep as the more I think of it. Forget Pi, this is the new mystical letter. Old mystical letter? A paradox right there.

Knew the symbol as a kid, and still haven't forgotten about it... Spending the first 12 years of my life growing up in Dhaka obviously has to do with that. But Shaad uncle, why is there the inconsistency when it comes to including this letter in the Bangla alphabets ? I'm sure I could do some research on that and find my answer, but I'm posing the question here nonetheless for your input And I also never understood why that one certain word was always used as the example to demonstrate the use of this letter. A total katthbirali-moment it always was...

Vowel, Li.
Part of the original shorborno set.

Never learned how it is used in a word.

Now extinct, but still printed on kids bornomala books.

Nasif - I unapproved your post. Shaad requested (OP) that people who know do not mention it and give the poll about a week to run its course.

clicked the wrong one;
should be
"You are 40 or older and know what this symbol is"
Mod, please change, if possible.

This is a good one, liked the poll.

I remember the name of the letter, never used myself
don't remember any one used it.

It's a vowel letter "Lee" comes after "Rre". My father taught me that. Never learned/read it in school. Don't know how to use it.

Please read the original post and accede to Shaad's request not disclose the answer until the poll has time to run.
