A quote from Bashar on the game
Quote:
"We know that we cannot win overnight. But by bringing down the margin of defeat today we have achieved our first target. If we can carry on like this in the second match we can dream of winning in the third and final game against them. What we always need is a gradual progress and I'm happy with our effort today," the 32-year-old told reporters after the match.

My question: Why not dream of winning next game?

The underlying comment: where's the self-esteem?

Thats the negative thing about Bashar, he is not confident when it comes to winning matches. Hope he changes his attitude soon!

There is a contradiction about Basher.
When he talks he looks like he lacks confidence.
But when he bats, he is a risk taker.

I guess the key for hard success is "step by step". When running is a far cry and even regular steps are hard to come by, smaller steps, one at a time, slowly but surely bring forth the target a little closer.
As much as I love to see the tigers fight their heart out for win, I'd be more happy at this moment if I see close games more often instead.

By saying that we are not thinking of winning the next one, you are essentially making a loss inevitable.

I guess we have to lose by 1 run before we go for win in the next game. Or should we go for tie first?

Hehehe, passing the blame game! Not bad.
I'm just trying to be realistic. Trying to take home all the positives whatever small they are. Ofcourse, I love to see win. But I'm seting my target lower instead of jumping too high after a rare successful show.
More consistent performance like not losing a wicket in the first 10 overs, every player reaching double digits, 50+ scores from atleast two, good fielding, penetrative bowling etc etc are of higher value to me. A win is just a function of that consistency.

we need to reach a habit of winning regularly rather than just winning one or two game n then again disappear in the dark corner of huge number of lost games.. n for that the progress must be gradual!!

It seems, unlike what many of us may think, he really had some plans...
But had bigger priorities than that i suppose! (like not allow batting collaps under pressure).

You folks should try playing against India for a change. Then we'll fully appreciate how good an 11 run defeat makes us feel vs a 100 run

Completely agree with you. Jey dol full ponchash over khelte pare na........prottek match jitbo eirokom monobhab akash thek tader modhdhe dhukbe na.........we have seen for the last couple of years what these "akash kushuk kolpona" can do. Ashraful-ke openning-e pathaia ponero over-e eksho run korar cheshta kore fol hoto "25 for 4". One step at a time should be the way..............Amra jodi regularly 230/240 korte pari, Win will come automatically. Criticism for criticism's sake brings no good.

Promises brings in expectations and with expectations comes disappointment. So i think his statement is very well balanced!

Our captain is impressing me day by day. first he batted like a matured guy then the words coming out of his mouth. Its good to know that he knows his limitations and has a plan for the future. Lets go for step by step.
GO BD!

Funny, Faruk said something very similar in his interview with me (which I promise to deliver in a day or two:embaressed: )
Creating a platform to win regularly.
