This batting team looks strong
1. Tamim Iqbal
2. Soumya Sarkar
3. Mominul Haque
4. Naeem Islam
5. Shakib Al Hasan
6. Nasir Hossain
7. Mushfiqur Rahim

Bowling team aint that bad either
8. Elias Sunny
9. Enamul Haque jnr
10. Nazmul Hossain
11. Rubel Hossain

People might say 'why Soumya?'. I say we need a decent opening partner for Tamim. He can also bowl pace which we might need if someone gets injured. No point of being in 3 pacers if the 3rd pacer is bad. So going with Enamul is the better option since he has been doing really well.

Pacers: Rubel, Nazmul, Soumya
Spinners: Enamul, Elias, Shakib, Naeem

Nasir is there as a back up medium pacer or spinner.

but why SS over anamul? even though anamul isn't inform he's been a standout of the last 2 years in domestic FC cricket and u19 cricket, he's surely shown more to be selected than SS at this point.

selection is getting tougher these days, i don't think mushy should bat so low, i don't think any decent batsman should bat at #7 unless they're they're more due to being a keeper (mushy is there just as much for batting if not more than for keeping, or if they're an allrounder. so for the #7 spot i much prefer someone like dhiman or babu. naeem and riyad aren't good enough with the ball to be considered allrounders in tests, they can be very handy but not relied upon day in day out.

Its just me expecting too much from Anamul and for Anamul to not be performing. But as i said we cant go into a match with only 2 pacers. We need a 3rd backup and i think Soumya might do the trick. There are no other other backup pacers that we can bring into a match. Please do not mention Ziaur Rahman or Farhad Reza's name. Mushy is a keeper and he should stay at #7. He and Nasir can form a partnership towards the end of an innings which will be crucial to the team. Mushy is also in poor form anyway so i think its best to leave him at #7 for the test series

mushy is a keeper but he's there for his batting really otherwise a better gloveman would be selected. as far as a back-up pacer, alauddin babu is a good pace prospect and he's a reasonable bat as well (already has an FC hundred) http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/conte...er/410768.html

i guess if you're looking for a more pure batsman who can provide some pace then you are looking at SS or even asif ahmed. babu is probably more of a bowling allrounder who is very handy with the bat making him a good choice for the #7 spot. i wouldn't throw SS into the fire just yet, he's not proven enough, if a new 2nd opener is selected i think it really needs to be anamul.

going in with 2 pacers might seem short but in BD conditions with spin being the strength it's a possible direction to go imo.

naeem at #4 is a fair enough call but i really think if we have one, we should have someone who is proven they can handle the pressures of international cricket, that means batting shakib or naeem in the #4 position.

i think since Nasir, Naeem, Mominul (#6, #4, #3 spots) are close to guaranteed positions in the team it leaves the openers position wide open. Nazim does deserve another chance and we could even give S. Nafees another go as well. Anamul obviously deserves a chance because of his FC form over the last 2 years but the thing is atm he is in poor form so it wouldnt make sense to put him in the national team right now.

Yes maybe Alauddin might not be a bad inclusion, but he wont fit into the team simply because the #7 position will be taken by Mushy or maybe even by Nasir. Heading into the match with 2 pacers is risky simply because if one pacer gets injured then it will make life difficult for the team. It would be best if there is a backup pacer in the team just for security. Since both the openers slot is wide open and also a backup pacer is needed, i think Soumya would solve that problem quite comfortably as he is an opening batsmen and can bowl pace.

But in terms of batting i think we should give Nazim another chance and after him can be Shahriar Nafees. Anamul needs to start making a string of decent scores to be considered.

To me Anamul shouldnt be considered just yet. Let him find some form because over the recent matches he has played, he has shown mediocre he can be. I know he has got the goods and i also want him in the national team but he really needs to consistently make at least 35+ scores to be considered for the national team.

Anamul's recent scores: 8, 6, 17, 23*, 3, 12 (These scores arent worthy of a spot in the national team)

Soumya's recent scores: 96, 0, 0*, 118, 22

tbf SS can be really mediocre as well, he didn't do much in the u19 WC, his FC record is nowhere near as good as anamul's either, plus when will be the next time we can debut someone at home against one of the weaker test teams? don't want to blow that opportunity so we should select who is most ready imo. as far as positions being guaranteed i don't think mominul or naeem's are guaranteed at all and although i think most likely we will have mushy or a specialist batsman batting at the #7 spot i think it's the wrong team structure to go in with.

i strongly believe mushy should bat top 6 (even if he does keep wicket), and the #7 spot should go to either dhiman or a pace allrounder.

Yes SS can be mediocre as well. But he is showing some form right now. Anamul obviously has more talent and has performed more consistently then SS for over a long period of time but right now Anamul is in poor form. I would put Nazim as the opener but since we need a backup pacer id opt for SS. As i said it makes no sense debuting a young player who is in bad form atm. If Anamul makes good string of scores of the next couple of FC matches then opinions might change.

Mominul deserves a national call up.

Mominul deserves a national call up.
anamul being more consistent over time means he's more likely to be more consistent than SS and that he's got a better chance of coming back to form than SS would. i can understand putting in an inform seasoned pro who has been consistent for years but why gamble with a young talent who's consistency has been mediocre just because they are in form and bowl pace? anamul is a better option even if out of form and if they want a back-up pacer there are other options. it's possible they'll take 3 pacers anyway.

definitely agree that mominul deserves a national call-up, this ton topped it off as well as that he did it with tamim the #1 opener in the country (and national team). if mominul is selected now just after this huge partnership with tamim there is a good chance they'll just build on it from here on out and they'll both be playing for the national team for many years to come so there are only positives there imo.

also what happens if anamul scores a ton in his next couple of innings? out of anyone anamul is the most likely to do that.

nazmul has done better than abul so far, hopefully the selectors are thinking of him for the longer format. and what an opening bowler combo khulna have with rubel and al amin, expect them to dominate with that combo.
