Default Shamsur Rahman joins Bangladesh squad

Quote:
Shamsur Rahman, the uncapped right-handed batsman, will leave for England to join the Bangladesh Test squad which has been hit by fitness issues. Rahman, 21, was included after the captain Shakib Al Hasan was diagnosed with chicken pox and the team's leading batsman Tamim Iqbal in doubt with a wrist injury.

"The Bangladesh team management requested a batsman as a back-up and the selection committee felt Shamsur would be the right choice as he is comfortable batting anywhere in the top five and is in form," chairman of selectors Rafiqul Alam said. "He will also get ample opportunity to get acclimatised to the English conditions before the Test series starts."

Rahman was in good touch for Bangladesh A at home against South Africa A, scoring 268 runs in the two unofficial Tests, averaging 67. He was earlier part of Bangladesh's Twenty20 squad for the World Twenty20 in 2009.

Bangladesh play a three-day tour match against England Lions at Derby starting May 19, before the first Test at Lord's on May 27.

Thats a very good move i would say...At least now Kayes won't get any chance to play any of the test

But i'm kinda afraid to give S.Rahman a test debut in england either (incase if TIK and Shakib dont recover well before first test). coz if he fails than his confident will be very low for future but lets wait and see...

Alhamdulillah.. Shamsur is the best partner for Tamim. This means some things:

1) SN will now become a middle order batsmen
2) Kayes will lose his T20 and Test playing right
3) ZS will become a permanent 3rd batsmen
4) Naeem's career will come to an end
5)Shahadat will become BD's dawn watchmen
6) Mushy and Riad's T20 career will come to an end
7)Tamim will be happy

SR Shuvo may struggle in english conditions but i would definetly go with him than I Kayes who has proven that he will not give any runs in this format.

Didn't like that one. Naeem is one of the best batsman on the team. I hope he gets a chance to bat at like number 4 or something one day. I'm tellin' you, he will shine.

well, seeing as how tons of english, indian, aussie, domestic players play for years and average 55+ in some of the strongest FC setups around, and then struggle at least initially in test cricket (if they even get that chance re: david hussey), he does have a point.

regardless of the number crunching, some guys have the talent to survive: guys like tamim, mushy, sakib never had gawdy numbers, but have the inherent talent to at least survive in test cricket. ash had a the talent, just didn't have the mental strength. geniuses like lara, tendy, dominated from the get go.

if shamsur can come in and average 25 from the start, and later up it to 30 or more (same case with Jahirul) then its not so bad.

I don't think Shamsur Rahman is a good addition. There are times when he plays quite bad. His recent scores as a Bangladesh A team player: 1, 21, 23. There are other promising and better players. Although Shamsur Rahman is a good player, he should be groomed first in order to consider him in the national team.

that was LIst a performance which he is always a poor performer.

check his last 4 FC scores ....... 84, 38, 89, 57 against SA A in the two four day FC matches.

he did deserve the chance but dont expect so much from him..BD batsmen are pretty much all the same unless your name is tamim, shakib or mushy..they are all talented but super inconsistent..unfortunately we have not found players that can deliver time and time again..Mahmudullah is turning in2 that kind of consistent player but we need 2 find some more consistent players or else it will just be an ongoing cycle of finding and then getting rid of players..

how do you know if SN would have made a big score even if he was not run out? I bet he would not have middled any ball against a WI pacer..
