কাল দুপুরে মাতারার ওয়াইনওয়াত্তা স্টেডিয়ামে অনুশীলনের সময় বাংলাদেশ দলের কাছ থেকে ‘আমার সোনার বাংলা’র সিডি চেয়ে নিলেন আয়োজকেরা। সুনির্দিষ্টভাবে কেউ কিছু বলতে পারলেন না; তবে ভাসা ভাসাভাবে জানা গেল, ম্যাচের আগে নাকি কী সব আনুষ্ঠানিকতা আছে। যেটিতে জাতীয় পতাকা উত্তোলন ও জাতীয় সংগীত বাজানোও আছে। কোন মন্ত্রী নাকি আসবেন। স্থানীয় সংসদ সদস্যও অবশ্যই থাকবেন বলে জানানো হলো।

মন্ত্রীর চেয়ে সংসদ সদস্যের উপস্থিতির খবরটাই বেশি চাঞ্চল্যের জন্ম দিল। সংসদ সদস্যের নাম যে সনাৎ টেরান জয়াসুরিয়া! ঘণ্টা দুয়েকের মধ্যেই অবশ্য এই খবর মিথ্যা বলে প্রমাণিত। যখন মাতারা শহরের কেন্দ্রস্থলে ছিমছাম দোতলা বাড়ির ড্রয়িংরুমে বসে এক প্রৌঢ় ভদ্রলোক ও তাঁর স্ত্রী ভাঙা ভাঙা ইংরেজিতে জানালেন, সনাতের পরদিন মাঠে থাকার কোনো সম্ভাবনা নেই। কারণ, শ্রীলঙ্কান ক্রিকেটের কিংবদন্তি বাঁহাতি এখন আছেন কুয়েতে। পরস্পরবিরোধী তথ্যের মধ্যে বিশ্বাস্য কোনটি—এখানে মোটেই সেই সংশয়ে পড়তে হচ্ছে না। কারণ, ওই প্রৌঢ় দম্পতি—ডানস্টান ও ব্রিডা সনাৎ জয়াসুরিয়ার বাবা-মা।

নিছকই একটি তিন দিনের ম্যাচ নিয়ে এমন সাজ সাজ রবের কারণ অবশ্য একেবারেই অননুমেয় নয়। ২০০৩ সালে পাকিস্তান না ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজ কোন একটা দল মাতারায় ম্যাচ খেলেছিল। ১০ বছর পর আবার এই মাঠ কোনো আন্তর্জাতিক দলের পদস্পর্শ পাচ্ছে। এ নিয়ে অবশ্য এক পশলা বিতর্কও হয়ে গেছে। জানুয়ারির শুরুতে হুট করে মাতারায় এই ম্যাচটা দিয়ে দিয়েছে শ্রীলঙ্কা ক্রিকেট। যেটির পেছনে মূল কারণ বলে মনে করা হচ্ছে, এ মাসের শেষে শ্রীলঙ্কা ক্রিকেটের নির্বাচনে মাতারা জেলা ক্রিকেট অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের ভোটটা নিশ্চিত করা।

^good point and I agree, since Riyad, Mushy, and Nasir have all but sealed their spots, it's better to have the other players up the order.

Not yet. According to Andrew Fernando, it's the regulars in the Test and ODI squads. Those three players are currently selected for the Test squad.
