He had a good logic on payment of the players. Infact the performance based payment system should be introduced at every level, to make all the players understand that there is no alternative to performance, where ever you play.

Nannu has rightly identified the problem of our current players.

Gone those days when we had Bulbul,Akram,Nannu cemented thier place in the middle order. For a long long time in BD national team, it was unthinkable to have anybody else in that middle order.
And havent they served us good?

I think thats where it made the difference. Even though our team of the 90's era didnot win many matches or was not up to the task, they played with thier abilities and serves to the best of thier mark.

What the current team badly lacks is a leadership role. Someone to look upto.
Unfortunately for us, we have none.

A bunch of early 20 something themselves, they have no one to turn to when it matters the most.

Back in the days...they had plenty.

Not a shade of doubt, we are in the test map today, primarily because of them.

It's true that they had limited abilities, but their commitment, produced much better output than they were capable of. They really over performed.

May be we needed a senior player in the leadership role. Like Ranatunga in the relatively young Sri team, while they won the world cup. Unfortunately we don't have even one like him. Bashar was in a position to take that role, but his performance graph was so consistantly low, that it could affect the team adversely, if all these irresponsibility have not increased at his last leg. it's beyond comprehension, how can all players of an era, be so irresponsible that we even don't have a choice of leadership, be it young or old.

And when you come to think of it, the finger is pointed to our policy makers. We are the ones who axed the likes of Mehrab Hossain, Al Shahriar, Shahriah Hossain. When players performed below their expectation we just gave them the axe whereas they should have been given a Specialist Coach to work with to correct their mistakes. Similarly we wiped out the next generation as well sacking Ehsanul Haque, Saleh, Kapali etc.

Sri Lanka doesnt have the luxury of a large player pool to choose from. But they have stuck to their principle. They dont bring in any player until they prove themselves in domestic cricket and A team consistently. And they ensure the national team has a good blend of youth and experience. Just look at their newcomer Malinda Warnapura- this guy is 29 with loads of First Class experience!

I'm Tired of these old grumpy LOSERS speaking there mind, writing articles about what is Wrong in Bangladesh Cricket. If these guys were truly great than we won't be this bad right now, instead players would have Idols too look up too. You guys put them on a pedestal like there great cricketers or something. They won an ICC Trophy on an 1 great innings that got them past the SF and rain helped them win the final.

Could you Imagine if were an Associate Team with the current group of players just whippin sides back in the day or right now. You'd have spells of 5/8 and Indiviual innings of 250+ in ICC intercontinental cup against sides like Namibia. These fools couldn't even beat Kenya.

None disagees that they didn't win a lots of matches, they didn't have the technical ability, they even weren't good enough to win the ICC trophy. But it was there sincerity, commitment and the desire to do better than what they were and that was vissible.

The current lot has better skill, better talent and ability. They just don't have the commitment, sincerity and the desire to perform. These are displayed not only at the international level, equally at the domestic level as well.

It makes a lot of difference winning against the associates; now and then. The oldies with their limitations ensured that we are in the test arena, the current generation is responsible to atleast retain that.

Right brothers just created a junk and The first generation of Neuclear bombs are crap by today's standard. The cric team of India (or any country when they began) in 50-60 would lose with todays Ind team, 100 out of 100 times. But they are more respected coz that was difficult. Their next generation haven't failed to take it ahead, unlike ours.

I know, have to have patience. But direct compariosn between the past and present and disregarding them, really shows how much we deserve.

The oldies didnt even have a proper cricket ground for a long time! And compare that to the facilities and attention these players get!!!! Its chalk and cheese!!! They used to get paid peanuts or next to nothing!...They used to play for the passion of the game...and they didnt have 1/4 of the exposure that the current bunch has had......

I would easily swap the current team with old one. At least they had responsibilities, knows how to talk and well educated.

i'm sure the thread opener is pretty young hence doesn't know much about our past. It might sound ridiculous to many of the new BC member but the joy and feelings that i have received by the radio commentary from the kilat club, INCOMPARABLE!!

Please respect our past cricketers.

I think any Bangladeshi, who listened to those matches esp the final, would/could never forget that day.

Its just one of those days that would forever be written in gold in the history of Bangladesh and its people.

...those were the days!

I think its time to stop Khajuira Paan Paanani. Its easy to complain and say all the right things, but whats the point if no body follows what they are saying? There is no point to blame players like Ash, Aftab who are expoiting the loop holes and maximizing their earning in a effort efficient way. Why give effort if you can get without giving that? Why go with pain of learning and modifying when you don't need to ... to be selected in the national team?

If you have to blame for your suffering and the failure of the team, everybody needs to look at the mirror and will see where is the problem is. You will see that patronizing these players are comming from every where... from fans... to coaches ... to selectors.... to team management ... to reports....from every where. Players fails to perform in the national team, they they even fail to justify their huge salary in local team. What is the penulty? They (some of them) gets cricketer of the year award.... they still get selected in the local team and fail again... and finally the final nail in the coffin? They get selected again the national team.

People complain... then they forget and forgive.... and the player(s) fail again..... and the cycle continues....

We are all playing games.....you know it I know it.... so why these complains? I think its time to Stop these Khajuira Paan Paanani....all talks and no action, I don't blame these players anymore, I blame these 'all talk and no action' people who have the power ot make a difference but decides status quo .... and complain to be in the safe side.

nowhere in the thread i see naved making any unacceptable comments about our past cricketers! naved bro, you did a good thing opening this thread, indeed it's a good find (the article about minhaz). by the way, i always think naved has very thoughtful and passionate feelings about bd cricket!

When the current bunch doesn't try (to learn or adapt), respect can not even be bought for these mindless idiots. One thing not to have talent. Another thing to have talent and not to use it. Habitual criminals gets no respect. Yes, it is criminal to try to hit a six in the first ball (get out in the process) and be happy because they played their (*&%*&) natural game. (Cricket is a team game not showing off class, style, or innovation. Average players needs to play for the team not to their instincts)

RESPECT is earned not given. Once earned, one needs to know how to preserve it. current bunch knows nothing.
