I don't see the point of playing both Naeem and Mahmudullah either. Going by:
a) Recent form in Tests/FC
b) Combination
I don't see how Mahmudullah gets in. It's obvious he's an auto-choice because of his Vice Captaincy, which is sad. Yes, Nafees and Zunaed are generally useless too, but at least they are riding on the back of a couple of big scores and are top order batsmen, which means they are not in direct competition with the VC.
I don't think we need eight batsmen. Nasir is playing primarily as a batsman and making him come in at #8 is a waste. If we must, he should bat at #7, but no lower. I have no problems with Gazi's inclusion, but I think we can play both him and Elias. I get the LHB argument, but Elias has been successful against LHBs in the past too. If he and Shohag are indeed as good with the bat as everyone claims, then we should have no issues playing seven batsmen.
Shakib should be reprieved - bowling 50 overs can't be good for his knee. The Elias-Shakib-Gazi combo would have been ideal, because without Elias, we're effectively playing 2.5 bowlers, if I may be so generous as to assign a 0.5 to our pacers combined.
But this isn't the final line-up, so we'll see how it goes tonight. Can't wait.

Not playing Nazza! just lost us the test match. Just look at the sheer percentage of test matches we've lost without him starting from the test debut 12 years ago. No Abul either! WILL.WE.EVER.LEARN?

Shakib Al Hasan is being over-bowled every season, and is going into another with a heavy load staring him down as he leads a group of inconsistent fast bowlers and a very inexperienced spin attack

^^^ that way I see we could take 20 wickets. Hope Akram and Co. will see that too.

In his last 11 Test innings, his AVG is only 16.8 with HS of 38 with 2 ducks and 20+ twice(inlcuding his HS)
^^^ that were to be Akram's comment why Mullah is in the playing squad!
NOT mine!!
If I were Akram, I wouldn't select Mullah, Nafees, Nazim, Abul in the squad at the first place Nadim.

As usual, if Tamim and Shakib don't fire, we won't reach 150 or take as many as 4/5 wickets. The guy with the second best performance in the NCL this year made those runs off tons of spin bowling and perhaps a few overs of third class pace bowling. How do we even expect him to have an answer for Rampaul/Fidel? And if Naeem can't, how do we expect SN/Riyad to not get blown away?

Shakib, Sunny and Gazi is must in the team... You drop anyone, you will struggle to take 20 wickets... Mullah/Nasir bowling is just waste of time and space...
bits and peices players ...best on nothing below average in everything...how we will expect best from these players who are happy with where they are and getting free rides as once upon a time they did something and got into the National squad and doing nothing now!!!
If 8 batsmen cant do it than 9 cant do it either... and Shohag G is also a decent batsman... I really want Elias to play in place of Zunaed/Nasir or Nafees....

Mullah did well in his first Test ever in West India in2009 when he took 8 wickets including 5 wickets in 2nd innings and scored probably unbeaten 75 in 2nd Test.
