Googling yourself
No, this is not an euphemism for activities by the forever alone. I do this ocassionally to see if there are any 'zunaid kazi' internet doppelgangers. Until the mid 2000s, there weren't even any Zunaids on the web but now I have found two additional namesakes. Until last year there was this one guy from Lancashire and now I've found another one in India. All three of us are techies of sort. This works if your name is kind of rare (but not too rare) - so no John Smiths or Mohammad Alis.
Do you have a doppelganger?

That's good in one sense. No one can find the real you. I looked at the first 10 pages for my name search (with my last name) and only about 4 out of the 200 links are not me. I've been on the 'net too long - starting from the days privacy was of no concern.

I remember this kid in Australia would pop up back in the day. I think it was another myspace like site that never took off. I haven't searched my name in a while. Probably should check it out.

It's actually a good idea to see if there is any crap associated with your name - online reputation management is very important. Employers, clients, TSA et al all do that.

That's why you have to get there first. Just to block your name even if you don't tweet, tube or whatever. Stake a claim. Don't let the claim jumpers get there first. When I got my domain in '97, I was too late for the dot com version and had to stay content with the dot net version. The dot com is an Islamic bookstore.

Weldone Mr. Zunaid Kazi http://scholar.google.com.au/citatio...rn0AAAAJ&hl=en
Your Citation curve looks like bangladesh team performance graph
Why didn't you write anything after 2004?
Machine Learning (what you do in knowtomation) is a hot topic now .

I was/am in industry not in academia. Keep your IP secret My last few papers were at IBM Research - while industry, it was required that we publish. After I left IBM, it all became trade secret.

Be happy if your name is common. Who wants their cash/cache to be found these days?

I just need to write Maysun F and Google auto completes my name, Maysun Faisal.
And the first two page of search results were about me. At least when I checked a year back.
[EDIT] I just checked. Google doesn't auto complete my name anymore. It shows Maysun Fashion now. I guess it was due to all the social networking sites I used to use back in the day.

I just googled myself. It found 546,000,000 results in 0.24 seconds. Looks like I am very popular.
Beat that

I googled my name and I happen to be the only one with that name. :P Besides, it just popped up the Daily Star article that mentioned me too. This is neat but privacy is a concern.

I used to have the sole google footprint for my name but recently it's grown. More intriguingly, a certain namesake of mine in New Jersey has claimed first rights to facebook's ammar.karim handle, and yet I claimed the gmail address way back. As a result sometimes his sister sends family photos to him, which gmail's oversmart AI insists belongs to me and keeps depositing in my inbox.
*ps: I still have the sole direct footprint if I put in my full name, which I'm forced to use outside Bangladesh.

i get scared sometimes to see my name is attached with so many things that I don't want it to be there. I hope people searching for me won't take all these into account and judge me!!! Googling does wonder but on the other hand negative links can be nightmare.
