Default Best Shingara & Puris in Dhaka?

Needless to say I'm a huge fan of shingaras and all types of puris (expect bhelpuri). Here are the places where I had the best of both snacks:

Best Shingara- The ones sold at the gates of Language Institute near Dhaka University. I used to have them about 3 years ago, so I'm not sure if they are sold there anymore. I can't seem to recall how much they cost, but I do remember they tasted delicious after a few hours of tennis practice- so hot, almost as to burn your mouth, with beetlobon. MMMmmmmm.

Best Alupuri- 1) Found in the first bhaja porar dokan on your right, when you are
entering New Market's Kacha Bazaar from the front. Very soft puris.
Tk. 2 each.

2) Found on road 10/a, dhanmondi, right on the side of Satmosjid
road- a small shop selling alipuris for tk.3 each. The last time I had
them (about 3-4 months ago) they were extremely soft had mint inside.

What about you? Include location and price if you can.

Best Shingara I have so far at my college i.e Dhaka Commerce College canteen 13 years back. It was Lever Shingara and after that I've never had lever Shingara anywhere else so tasty!

Best Puri was from Kathal bagan bazar forgot the name of the hotel. Unfortunately the hotel is no more. Their specialty was the 'Chatni' they used to give do dip the Puri into it.

Yes, too bad that in Bangladesh, new things are almost never able to replace or recapture the novelty or quality of old things.

Try kolija shingara from New Kohinoor at the Shahbagh intersection. Four-five liver cubes with a spicy potato mix, yum! Totally worth 10 taka.

Also, the tiny potato shingaras at Nilkhet in a small restaurant underneath Sonali Bank are AMAZING! For 3tk a piece for a tiny shingara, you don't win quantity-wise but the with the sprinkled rock salt you won't complain about the flavour.

By the way, if you don't care so much about quantity, Grill Hut in Dhanmondi-4 pumps out uniquely spicy potato shingaras for 5tk/piece. They don't taste amazing but they are better than the bland tastleless ones sold at the neighborhood "hotels" at the corners of every other street. If you happen to visit Grill Hut, try the chicken somucha as well, it's a bestseller. A word of caution though, they use a LOT of oil, so don't have a bunch of their food at one go or you'll get acid reflux later.

Please keep suggestions coming in. @Zeeshan I enrolled into NSU recently and have never tried the puri. I hope I am not two years too late lol.

there was a newspaper article that most of the kolija they give is not of good quality, i mean the left overs. they make such small pieces that it is tough to understand.
forget about this, back to the business, nilkhet beside book store, those shops are also cool.

My best friend once asked me "How do you know your Kajer meye doesn't spit in your food before serving?" That was an epiphanic moment for me. Suddenly I realized I HONESTLY didn't know if anyone spit in my food... but what difference would it make until I know. So I try not to know.

Two options. Either cook your own food or take care of you kajer me ye so she doesn't spit in your food but cooks it with love......

The best Shingara I had was at the entrance of Bongo Baazar where they make it fresh.

Can’t and shouldnt buy Shingara from a store in Bangladesh.

I used to remember they made these awesome Shingaras opposite of the entrance of Rifles Square. They were mini bites. Not sure if still there but it was unique as they had peanuts in them.

I think for puris and shingaras find a nice hotel that makes it fresh. They are more or less the same standard.

Tbh if you want to look at best local eats watch YouTube videos for khadai dot com and crazy folder Bd

Try the Kacchi biriyani at Sultan's Dine in Dhanmondi. Extremely popular now a days. Those who eat it, like it better than Star Kabab's and Fakhruddin's.

There is a kachi place in Mohammedpur which is fantastic...naam ta bhule gessi. Their borhani is amazing.

The Shingara at Bongo was suggested by my hygiene concerned Dad. He rarely recommends me to eat outside but this he surprisingly asked me to try.

Tbh if you want great Shingaras you need to have them freshly made or from the local restaurants.

If you go to Star the mutton leg roast is a must. And their tea is tasty.

Tbh as there is so much dawats and regular nastas I could hardly eat out.

Have a great time Shingara bro!

Bbq tonight in Dhanmondi was best for kebabs IMO in a rustic setting. If you like hot food I recommend the khatakhat with romali roti.

It's got a nice homely vibe to it seeing its in one of the traditional Bangladeshi dhanmondi posh houses.

Also the buffet at the luxury hotel restaurant in Gulshan 2 round about (which was original Sauslys) was really good.

Hope Shingara bro is enjoying his holiday.

I remembered I saw on this show "hater kache pother khabar" that in a restora in puran dhaka there is a puri which isnt commonly found called Deem Puri.

My favourite Daal Puri in Bangladesh was one inside Shankar bus stand. There puris would come with a special mustard sauce and nicely cut cabbage and carrot salad. Usually in most places you either get a sweet sauce or you get jhol which are not that nice.
