Default Bangladesh becoming battleground for Indo-Pak Intelligence wars?

http://ibnlive.in.com/generalnewsfee...ed/939949.html

New Delhi, Dec 20 (PTI) An Army Lieutenant Colonel was embroiled in an alleged honeytrap and then blackmailed by ISI which reportedly asked him to spy for Pakistan during his posting in Bangladesh. The Army has ordered a Court of Inquiry (CoI) against the officer whose name has been witheld by the Army Headquarters here. The Infantry officer was doing his Staff College course in the Bangladesh's Military Academy in Dhaka. Army sources here said today the officer was reportedly honey-trapped by a woman whom he had met at a party in Dhaka two months ago and was then later approached by agents of Pakistan's intelligence agency. Armed with alleged tapes of the officer and the woman together, the officer was asked by the ISI agents to spy for Pakistan, the sources said. The officer reported the incident to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and he was immediately recalled to India, they said. The CoI against the officer is being headed by a senior officer. As per Army Rules, establishing any such intimate relations with other than permissible people is prohibited and is a punishable offence. This is the second time in the recent past that a senior officer of the Indian Armed Forces has been "honey-trapped." Early this year, the Navy dismissed Commodore Sukhjinder Singh, who was posted in Russia to overlook the retrofitting of aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov, for allegedly having intimate relations with a local woman. However, it could not be proved that his links with the woman had had any impact on the aircraft carrier project, for which the Russians had several times hiked the cost of repair and overhaul.

If this is true then it confirms the presence of ISI - RAW in the country. IMO we should not be accomodating either side. Both are as bad as the other.

I think Research and Intelligence wings main task is to gather intelligence about external threats. There are CIA agents in bangladesh working at the US embassy doing the same thing. There is nothing wrong in having agents as long as they dont meddle in internal affairs of bangladesh.

I will be surprised if there are no RAW agents inside bangladesh, because someone out there managed to locate ULFA and other seperatist group leaders inside our border (and also provide location of their camps). So its naive to suggest that there are no RAW activities inside the country.

I am pretty sure there are intel guys at the embassies at dhaka as well as new delhi who are also declared to each other.

I was questioning the conclusion from the article since it did not mention RAW. I read sometime back that all the intel officer from RAW does is read newspapers and write reports from that.

I don't know why its surprising. Bangladesh is just a pawn in the greater scheme. All the more expected given our history of BNP-AL politics of polarity.
