Iktedar Nazeef Ahmed the captain of Bangladesh U-15 is the youngest brother of the national opener Shariar Nafees Ahmed. He is also a classmate and a very good friend of mine. In this years Standard Chartered Young Tigers National School Cricket Tournament 2008 we both opened the innings for Scholastica. He is a specialist top-order batsman who can also bowl leg spin effectively. Rakin Ahmed is also another player in this U-15 team from Scholastica who scored two consecutive century in this years Standard Chartered Young Tigers National School Cricket Tournament in the two matches he played, unfortunately due to his injury he could not continue. In the preparation tour of the West Bengal Rakin scored two centuries in two-day matches, who knows we may find a future Bangladeshi star in Rakin. My best wishes to both of them to play well in this tournament.

I used to open for Scholastica too, in another lifetime. Played two games in the Nirmaan, and then decided to concentrate on academia, thereby losing touch. It's been a while since I've held a cricket bat, barring the occasional indoor fazlami.

Good to see a couple of Scholasticans in the age group teams. I remember the golden era (in the mid-nineties) when we used to go to the Dhaka stadium to watch the likes of Rono, Tasabbur, Shaker, etc. beat the crap out of other schools. We had 5 or 6 players in the national U-19 squad back then. I think Iftekhar Nayeem went to Scholastica too.

How did you guys do this time?

Man, these boys look sadder than Dhiman Ghosh...what is it with younsters they never smile nowadays. I was a temporary teacher in Scholastica few years ago. I also coached the cricket team, is that games teacher Prince still there? But anyway I knew SN used to go to St. Joseph, his brothers are both Scholasticians wow, didnt know that.

Not good this time, we were out from the first round. We won two matches and lost two matches. Unfortunately Rakin was injured and Iktedar had to go to Dinajpur for the training camp. This two are the best players we have at the moment so without them it was very tough for us to win a match.

So Iktedar is the boy in the middle wearing the green shirt and I am guessing Liton is the one next to him as he's the vice captain.

Not surprised. We sucked in our time too. At least you guys have some national age group players.

How can you expect a little kid to be a promising fast bowler, if they don't even have hair on their chest yet.

You are underestimating them, when I was coach of the Scholastica team there was a boy called Raiyan, he was the Afridi of the team except only he was a pacer who opened the bowling for the team. But like Afridi he was equally good with the bat as he was with the ball...anyway he was really really fast and he was only like 14-15 at the time.

No not the head coach, I know who Sarwar sir is, he is the most senior Games teacher in Scholastica. But I was told to accompany the boys and I selected the team along with Prince.

These 13-15 years old need better diet. BCB should look into this. They are very rich in cash.

More teams come in
CLICO Int'l Under-15 Cricket Championships
Thursday, April 17th 2008

All eyes in the cricketing world are focused on the CLICO International Under-15 Cricket Championships, which warmed up yesterday with the arrival of the Americas, Bangladesh, Ireland and Pakistan teams in Barbados.

Today the teams from Kenya, Holland and Malaysia will also arrive in Barbados for what is considered as the Under-15 "World Cup".

The last such tournament-the Costcutter Under-15 World Challenge Championships-was held in England in 2000, with the West Indies emerging as winners after they defeated Pakistan in a thrilling final at the famous Lord's cricket ground.

As such, they are virtually the reigning champions and are expected to give a spirited defence.

The Championships begin officially today with a welcome dinner at the Accra Beach Hotel, Barbados, with the various teams and their managers meeting their counterparts in a social atmosphere.

The tournament bowls off on Saturday with the opening match between West Indies and Malaysia, who have replaced Zimbabwe in the Championships. Saturday's other game will be between Bangladesh and Holland.

West Indies U-15 Squad: Stephen Katwaroo (Captain), Anthony Alleyne, Sunil Ambris, Kraigg Brathwaite, John Campbell, Derone Davis, Rico Depeiza, Nino Henry, Kaveem Hodge, Amir Khan, Donavon Nelson, Omar Samuel, Akeem Saunders, Raymund Senior.

Manager: Peter Vaughn; Coach: Keith Arthurton; Physio: Phyllis Burnett.
