Default What forces drives the growth of cricket in Bangladesh?

currently i'm writing a paper on development of cricket in bangladesh, another words why cricket in bangladesh is where it is today? my teacher told me to think of cricket in bangladesh as a train, what is driving that train? i already found a bunch of stuff from pre ICC 1997 era up to today, my main focus is gonna be the the youth and popularity of cricket in Bangladesh, i would really appreciate if you guys shed some light on what you think is the driving force of cricket in bangladesh?

You might want to mention the fact that cricket is one of the major sports in the world and the fact that Bangladesh has got a name in the sport with World cup participation etc, which boosts the interest in the country hence more n more people get hooked onto it which in turn motivates the youths and play the game themselves.

Also you can mention the successes of the fellow South Asian neighbours in cricket, which gave Bangladeshis the extra drive n spur to be a power house in cricket, as evident with the rapid development in interest during the mid-late 90s.

Here are some reasons that comes to my mind:
  • Colonial influence
  • Being East Pakistan in the Past
  • Influence of neighbouring cricketing giants: India, Srilanka, Pakistan
    • Indian Media
  • Failure to succeed in other sports (eg. soccer)
    • Lack of success drove the lost of popularity
  • Limited success in Cricket
    • Hope for Success
    • Compete in the top level

Open up any newspaper and may be you can see what is going on in BD. Can you find any good news in the front page? 99% of the time the news would range from bad to worse. Bangladeshis, fed with bad news 24/7 try to hold on to any good news and smile.

Limited success in Cricket has allowed us to enjoy some good news. Hense the popularity sky rocketed since the 80's (Football was supreme then). That could be the driver. Plus, the money is getting better for national players.

Yes, "limited success" in cricket would be the right phrase. It gives us hope of success. Also, unlike other sports, in cricket we get to compete in the top level.
