Most probably Aftab, we will be missing his fast medium bowling though.

The squad is already announced. Taposh out. Masri, Rajib and Munir will play. The only undecided pat is who will be the 12th man between Aftab, Rajin and Rahim.
I believe it is now safe to say, Rahim will play for sute. So either Rajin or Aftab will carry the drinks. I am kind of worried about this. This reminds me of the wicket keeper Anwar incident. When he was playing so good, we let him play one ODI against West Indies and he did mervalous (42 in the only innings) then got selected in the test team and scored 2 and 12, and his carrer was over. (Very unfair for someone with an ODI average of 42).
I am hoping this will not turn out that way.

Does anyone knows the family background of Anwar Hossain? I'm guessing that he has something to do with the saudi king faisal hossain. otherwise when no one even expected him to be in the 21 men squad, he made it to the 11.
surprise, surprise.

I donno, IMHO Munir will be pretty expensive. English top order will smash him like "Chhatu".

Don't know about that. Rahim is from Bogra. When he was included few weeks ago some local newspaper pointed out his political connection. Personally I think no one has any types of connection. Our selection panel is purely independent.

Okay, I hadn't read the article in the other thread, but can't you guys read the 'FROM'? The team has announced a 12 member squad for the Test, which most teams do in advance and will pick the final eleven either this evening or tomorrow morning before the match. This doesn't mean that Rajin is playing and Aftab is sitting out!!

They just considered practice match performance otherwise Rahim should not be in that squad too. And about Rajin don't wanna argue with you.

Congrats to Rahim for his first test call! A debut at the Lord's! Fits our young prodigy!
I am seriously hoping he will score a century in his first test! Wouldn't that be brilliant! Birth of a Bangladeshi legend! But the possibility is probably very slim. However, it is not a fault to be optimistic. One month ago, people even didn't think Mushfiqur Rahim will be selected in the 20-man squad for the England tour, let alone be picked up for the first test as a BATSMAN! But the little prodigy has proved us all wrong and grabbed whatever chance he was given with both hands! If he was gutsy enough to score two back-to-back good performances, why not a third in a row! I hope he will get at least a 50!
Now a few words about the team selction- Bangladesh has gambled heavily to select the team. Good to see BD taking a more attacking approach- that is my point of view. If we were playing for a respectable loss (!), we should have taken Taposh. He is more experienced, can maintain a steady line and length, but don't have the attacking instinct. On the other hand, Shahadat is full of fire, a young and fast lad- waiting to be unleashed. Anwar Hossain's performance in the last practice match was exceptional. He took four wickets out of six. We all know English pitches favour the fast bowlers- so we have picked up the most three attacking bowlers, let's see what they can do.
I guess we have already discovered the weak-side of the above approach. Shahadat and Anwar Hossain both are very very inexperienced. In fact, it would be Shahadat's debut match. There is a heavy possibility that these two greenhorns will be picked up by the veteran English batsmen in no time and will be seriously punished. If we had taken Taposh, he could at least maintain a regular line and length and not let the English plunder too many runs. But then again, Shahadat and Anwar Hossain may take some wickets which Tapash probably would not. If we really want to compete (I am not saying we are going for a win!) we have to try our best- not sit back and hope that the opposition will show us some mercy and spare us lightly.
If we are going to lose, which we probably will, why not try an attacking approach and see what happens!

It's not the same case. I watched Anwar's ODI innings of 42 live. It was a very scratchy innings (he took 107 balls to score 42). It was no wonder that he failed in the tests.
