its kinda sad cause its the Zimbawean people who suffer, however 2 mill in lost income support.. i doubt Zimbabwe have ever seen 2 million dollars

i was visiting zim not too long ago, it's amazing that they're still playing cricket despite the political turmoil, and mass exodus of its civil society and white population (traditionally the seat of cricket there). guys like taibu and sibanda fade away before having the chance to shine. the situation in kenya is worse. no political madness there, at least not of the zim variety, but you can produce a only a limited number of cricketers from a tiny pool of the gymkhana club elite. their only role seems to be to make the shahriar nafeeses of the world look better than they are.

That is the reason why I always supported Zimbabwe, even way above the Kenyans or the Irish.

it had to happen.. remember our last series against.. them. it was really worse series.. their government didn't allow any journalists. and were charging 600 dollars..

Government stops Zimbabwe tour

The Australian government has ordered the country's cricket team not to tour Zimbabwe in September. John Howard, the prime minister, said it was not fair to leave the decision up to Cricket Australia and the players.

Err.... zimbabwe may be under siege and suffering financially, but 2 million dollars is pittance. The real loss is Mugabe's loss of pride, which is what we all want.

true enuff, but why should Mugabe be allowed to line his pockets after he is the reason the tour wont go ahead, well either way its a moot point cause the gov banned it so no $$$ for Mugabe

but for a country like NZ where the gov cant revoke passports to prevent the tour so they have to pay the fine :/

ICC needs to say enuffs enuff put the cricket back into independant administrators or ur out.

mugabe's a megalomaniacal butcher. he has done a number on zimbabwe as a whole. the tragic state of their cricket is but a vague reflection of his madness. zim should be boycotted the way SA was during apartheid as long as he's there...

Ok, if there are human rights violations by Mugabe (including those against White Farmers), that is tragic and not to be condoned. But that discussion here will open up a can of worms, so let us not bring it into play.

But considering the greater scheme of things, Cricket is not Mugabe's priority. If Cricket in Zimbabwe falters as a side effect to closing the door to all Ian Smiths of the Old World, then that is an expense he can bear, and so can Zimbabwe- atleast he thinks so.

For all of you AL lots, think of it like this - in 1971 if the choice came as being able to play Tests with the W Pakistan team (Bengali players with a quota) vs the Liberation war/movement, what do you think the Sheikh Sahib would have prioritized?

Pundit bhai, I dont think ICC can deal with that issue here. At best there has to be a united ban on Zimbabwe cricket like there was against South Africa during the apartheid days... but what ICC can object to is the way Zimbabwe Cricket Board is managing ICC funds, the state of Zimbabwe's cricket, etc. On that grounds, ICC can very well make sure England, Aus and NZ do not tour Zim.

This was being created as a political problem just so that the Govt got its chance to cancel the tour. It could not have turned out in any other way.
