i am tired of people who say this is wrong in US..that, regardless of what has happened in recent past, US still retains its great heritage and history including great people.

one of my favorite quotes of Barack Obama:
"Islam and America need not be mutually exclusive, in fact they overlap"
Islam has always been an influence in US, some people just don't know it...(hint: the founding fathers )

And I will have to second the motion. In spite of all the ills purported or real, this is truly the land of opportunity and the spirit of egalitarianism not withstanding the history of slavery runs through the soul of my new home.

There are not many instances when I can say this but I disagree with this. Any country with a half decent economy and where law and order is properly maintained, rules and regulations are applied stringently and red tapism is negligible, is a land of opportunity. USA is as much a land of opportunity as is UK, Australia, Singapore, HOng kong, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, Canada. As long as you know the language spoken in the country and you have the will and ability you are golden.

Sharyiar (ap?) - I did not say the US of A is the only land of opportunity. There are many others as your list attests. Feel free to disagree a second time - I aim to please.

He is. Note how he types ( ap?) and not ( sp?). Recently, he also got his wife's name wrong somewhere else.

Hahaha I was wondering the same thing with (ap?). I thought it must mean something beyond my normal brain to decipher so did not question him. Now that you bring it up, it does make sense. Hopefully his wife did not see the jogakhichuri of her name.

Yup, USA rocks.. 8 years in this country and loved every moment of it. Like any other country there are shortcomings like the airport reception, immigration process or foreign policies but in the end it is still my second home!
