Default Bangladesh skip over India in FIFA rankings

The Bangladesh national team leapfrogged seven places to finish ahead of India and capture second place amongst South Asian teams in the FIFA rankings for September.

Bangladesh is now ranked 145th, just two positions behind the top South Asian nation Maldives, who remained stuck at their previous points tally of 117 points.

Bangladesh's highest ever FIFA ranking was 110 in April 1996.

However, this jump is only made possible because of a massive-slide by India, who slipped twenty-two spots to 160 from their previous 138th. They are now ranked behind Maldives, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka (148) and Nepal (156).

However, India is still ahead of rivals Pakistan (162) while Afghanistan (194) and Bhutan (198) are the bottom two sides in the South Asian region.

Even though it was mainly due to India failing then BD succeeding..still good to see us ahead..I'm hoping the soccer team makes strides under the new coach..

Exactly. Basically during the last few years (thanks to the emergence of Baichung Bhutia) we did lose the top spot among SAARC nations. Great to hear a good news this time around.

The Asian Games football competition will kick off in Guangzhou, China on November 12, 2010. it's a under-23 competition. 3 senior players can also play in the team. Bangladesh probables are practicing in a camp at BKSP. It will go until sep 30th. Then federation cup (club football) will start early next month.

Lolz...Fifa is biased towards BD. Last time during world cup our ratings increased four points! We were not playing football in last 6 months!
Btw should I be happy for this?

It's probably because India beat Vietnam who is a higher ranked team but they still lost to Hong Kong and Yemen..India's a pure S-H-I-T team though so they should go below us soon..anyone know when BD plays their next match? It's been a while and they should get proper practice..
