True. We have a better future in hockey than football.

^^ But people are more crazy and passionate over football than hockey. also hockey needs more infrastructure. one just can't play in open space, need sticks and proper field. yes the main challenge lies in popularizing the game. But i wonder the amount of craze and hot tempered we are as reflected in football matches, it will be a disaster if it gets along in hockey to show our skill with sticks.

i was really impresses with our efforts in the hockey tournament ..... saw all the games except the first one against the irishmen.
our GK was wxcellent aaisnt india,otherwise it could have been 15-1 that night.

hockey has a far better future than football.

একটা টুর্নামেন্টের পারফরম্যান্সই বদলে দিচ্ছে বাংলাদেশের হকিকে। বিশ্ব হকি লিগের দ্বিতীয় রাউন্ডে ভারত, আয়ারল্যান্ডের পরই ছিল বাংলাদেশ। এমন ফলাফল নিয়ে এখন স্বপ্ন দেখতে শুরু করেছে পুরো জাতি। অনেক আর্থিক সীমাবদ্ধতার মধ্যেও জিমি-চয়নদের এমন পারফরম্যান্সে মুগ্ধ সবাই। তাঁদের দিকে হাত বাড়াতে এগিয়ে এসেছে দেশের বিভিন্ন ব্যাংক, বিমা কোম্পানি, পোশাক নির্মাণ প্রতিষ্ঠান।
হকি দল দিল্লি থেকে ফেরার আগেই ফেডারেশনের সাধারণ সম্পাদক খাজা রহমতউল্লাহর সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করে জাতীয় দলের পোশাক সরবরাহ করার আগ্রহ দেখিয়েছে অঞ্জনস। বিদেশি কোচ ও ক্যাম্প খরচ বাবদ ওই সময়ই জনতা ব্যাংক প্রতিশ্রুতি দেয় ৯০ লাখ ৪৪ হাজার টাকা দেওয়ার। অলিম্পিক ভবনে ফেডারেশন ও ব্যাংক কর্মকর্তাদের মধ্যে এ বিষয়ে একটি সমঝোতা স্মারক (এমওইউ) হওয়ার কথা ছিল আজ। তবে অনিবার্য কারণে তা পিছিয়ে গেছে। অঞ্জনস দুই বছরের জন্য চুক্তি করতে আগ্রহী হলেও আপাতত এক বছরের চুক্তি করবে ফেডারেশন। বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠানের সঙ্গে হকির পৃষ্ঠপোষণার ব্যাপারে সমন্বয় করছেন ফেডারেশন সভাপতির প্রতিনিধি উইং কমান্ডার রাফিউল হক।
গ্রামীণফোনও আসতে চায় হকিতে। আলোচনা চলছে ফেডারেশনের সঙ্গে। বছরে ৩ কোটি টাকা করে আগামী পাঁচ বছরের জন্য একটি চুক্তি প্রস্তাব করা হয়েছে। গ্রামীণফোনের সঙ্গে এ নিয়ে সিদ্ধান্ত হবে ফেডারেশনের বার্ষিক সাধারণ সভার (এজিএম) পর। প্রায় আট বছর পর হকিতে এজিএম হবে। এটি নিয়েই বেশি ব্যস্ত কর্মকর্তারা। তিন বছরের জন্য জাতীয় যুব হকির পৃষ্ঠপোষণা করতে এগিয়ে আসছে অগ্রণী ব্যাংক। ব্যাংকটি প্রাথমিকভাবে ৩০ লাখ টাকার প্রস্তাব দিলেও ফেডারেশনের সভাপতি এয়ার মার্শাল ইনামুল বারী সেটা বাড়ানোর অনুরোধ করেছেন।
হকিতে পৃষ্ঠপোষণা করতে আগ্রহী সাউথ ইস্ট ব্যাংকও। তারা এ জন্য বর্তমান ও গত বছরের হকির বাজেট চেয়েছে। তবে কত টাকা তারা দেবে, সেটা জানা যাবে ৯ মার্চের পর। জাতীয় দলের পারফরম্যান্সে খুশি হয়ে এরই মধ্যে হকিতে অনুদান বাড়ানোর সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে হকির পুরোনো বন্ধু গ্রিন ডেল্টা ইন্স্যুরেন্স। তিন বছরে ৪০ লাখ টাকা দেওয়ার কথা থাকলেও তারা চুক্তির বাইরে দেবে আরও ২০ লাখ। গত তিনটি টুর্নামেন্টে জাতীয় দলের স্পনসর হিসেবে থাকা ইউসিবিএল ব্যাংক আভাস দিয়েছে আগামী আগস্টে এশিয়া কাপেও জাতীয় দলের সঙ্গেই থাকবে।
এদিকে সুসংবাদ দিয়েছেন আন্তর্জাতিক হকি ফেডারেশনের (আইএইচএফ) সভাপতি লিয়েন্দ্রো নেগ্রে। বাংলাদেশের হকির উন্নয়নে প্রতিশ্রুতিশীল এই স্প্যানিয়ার্ড পরশু ৫০০ হকিস্টিক, ২০০ বল ও দুটি গোলরক্ষণ সেট পাঠিয়েছে। বিমানবাহিনীর প্রধান হকি ফেডারেশনের সভাপতি হওয়ার সুবাদে এই সরঞ্জামগুলো শুল্কমুক্তভাবে ছাড়ানোর চেষ্টা করা হচ্ছে। জানা গেছে, এই অনুদানগুলো এখন থেকে প্রতিবছরই দেওয়া হবে বাংলাদেশকে। আপাতত এই সরঞ্জামগুলো দেশের বিভিন্ন জেলা ও স্কুলে দেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে ফেডারেশন।
