Default Books for Reading

Usually in the winter I like reading books for pleasure and those that are easy to read . I thought I would share some of my top reads:

Da Vinci Code- Dan Brown
Angels and Demons- Dan Brown
The Kite Runner- Khaled Hosseni
Harry Potter: The Philosophers Stone: J K Rowing
Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows: J K Rowling
The Hundred-Foot Journey: R C Morris

I am not that into books, but I read most if not all the works of Stephen King, Humayun Ahmed, Bibhuti Bhushan, Narayan Gangopadhay, Mujtaba Ali, Tara Shankar, Charlaine Harris and LJ Smith (yes I am a sucker for vampire novels, don't judge me )

Midnight's Children - Salman Rushdie. One of the best books I have ever read. I know Rushdie is controversial and I don't think his books are available in BD, but I highly recommend it. (Also note, this has no connection to the Satanic Verses).

I'm currently reading Half A Life , by V. S. Naipaul.

After that is done, I have 1984 waiting for me.

I have read the Kite Runner, good book, but the main protagonist(Amir) annoys me.

Good to see some people still read books these days from our community.

Aamir is quite irritating I agree lol. Best character is the Dad. This book is a roller coaster of feelings with a diverse background of subplots and twists . I like books which also touches on history too like this one.

Khaled Hosseini A Thousand Splendid Suns is a good book but too much pain and suffering for my liking. His last book And the Mountains Echoed was boring tbh.

Amir is the pinnacle of what a person should not be, how can you....

(MAJOR SPOILERS DO NOT READ BEYOND THIS POINT)

Ignore a person getting raped out of spite, Amir is a self entitled prick, no wonder his father has neglected him throughout his childhood.

I have read the comic version of the Kite-runner as well.

I used to read them as a kid. They were my favorite. No other detective/mystery series comes close.

Jafar Iqbal's sci-fi short stories are great also.

The young Aamir is all you have said he is. But he does redeem himself.

And even though a lot of it is cliche but the story ponders a lot on the phrase what goes around comes around.

I didn’t realise there was a comic. Saw the movie which just picks up the main highlights of book.

Any old Masud Rana fans here? Is there a digital library somewhere of the first 200 books of the Masud Rana series?

I do not like Classics much, and I am not a fan of politics but I love this one book

1984 - George Orwell
Because I can relate to this book so much and also the title happens to be the year I was born.

I am sure most of you (if not all of u) have read it anyways.

Target is to read about 50 books and 200+ abridged versions of many important books on different topics. An average CEO reads 60 books a year. That is 5 books per month!

So far this year, books finished,

1. Unlimited Memory
2. Destructive Emotions
3. Insane Productivity

books currently reading,

1. The Innovator's Dilemma
2. Selected 2017 articles from HBR
3. The 8th Habit

books in the cue,

1. Fire and Fury : Inside the ***** white house
2. Hacking: The No Nonsense Guide
3. An Introduction to Philosphy

and few more...

The abridged versions really help as these are world classics summed-up by experts to render the gist and that actual 20%. I have already read about 24 of them so far of my target 200.

Also following books I am not reading as a whole, but take a look at different parts whenever I get bored,

1. Tao Te Ching
2. The Bhagavad-Gita
3. People Skills

Perhaps, I read Daniel Dennet and Bertrand Russsel last year and they pulled me into it. I also manage a page in FB titled New Modernism which is actually Post Post-Modernism. Reading Dennet made me more curious as I never actually had a direct course on Philosophy (a bit ironic for being a PhD ) I felt I need to know the basics to understand his discussions better.
