Not really. India was on their way to the 2nd round - because they were the clear favorites against BD and Bermuda. They needed 2 wins against 3 matches. On a good day, India could compete against Sri Lanka - but Sri Lanka out classed India on their day.

So given that the loss against SL could still in theory have allowed India to go to the next round...it was really the loss of BD that stopped India from moving to the next round.

As for this round, Zainab's post is the best in this thread so far. BD played well that day, and won. Simple as that. And the expectations for BD were much less than the expectations this year.

From Coach Ian's fb page:

But Rubel is not heavily built and neither is Shafiul lanky, skinny surely. They both need to gulp more protein, specially Shafiul.
Lol tough crowd...

DJ and Kabir are both right...two ways of looking at one paradox. BD knocked and didn't knock India out in 2007.

Losing to BD was largely to blame for India's exit. Yes, India still could have stayed in WC if they beat SL but you're not guaranteed a win against a team like SL but you pretty much expect India to make light work of 'minnows' like us, which in that ocassion they didn't. Hence it was BD that knocked India out.

Good read.

But you have only one pacer (Rubel) and no Shafiul in the playing XI ! You also have Riyad, Naeem and Shuvo in the line up. This would be highly unlikely, I think.

The coach is right. Rubel is not heavily built --good built, I would say-- nor Shafiul lanky. Watching Shafiul in real life really defies belief as to how he generates such good speed from such a skinny frame!

Darn right, they only had one win, that is why they were knocked out.
