Default Strategy: Bangladesh should not use powerplay if bats badly first against big teams

Since run rate matters and we are already in a hole, we should try to stop making net run rate any worse. Interesting thing about run rate computation is that it does not pay attention to powerplay. So let's say we bat first against Australia and score only 150. Now if we take powerplays in first twenty overs, they probably would finish the game in 20 overs. BUT if we do not take powerplays (after the first one) at all, they probably would score 150 in 30-35 overs. That would damage our net run rate much less.

I know it is a negative strategy but Sri lanka was essentially a similar script today against South Africa.

I think its better to set small targets, like the batsmen sets themselves to score like 30 runs in every 5 overs. Which lead us having around 250 runs, providing we miss a few of those targets.

We almost always see team taking power play one after another. Only Aus playing against SA delayed taking their final power play. They took it only after breaking the opening pair. And it worked fine for them.

I think its not a bad idea to delay 2nd and/or 3rd power play while we are fielding when we bat first and score small total. That will hopefully stretch the game few more overs. bashar should think about that.

Powerplay doesn't matter, if we can't score runs in the first place. Its true that our batsman made some runs against India but they are clueless against some top quality bowling. I still cant forget the performance against Srilanka. It was pathetic

Why people are openning threads without even looking at existing threads.

I do not think there has been any thread discussing this topic.

Recommendation for Bashar would be to not take any powerplay until 40th over (if the game goes that far), if we bat first and score really low (130-140).

its a good idea but i really doubt we need to worry about NRR at this stage. we have no chance of going to the semis unless we defeat at least england, NZ and west indies. its a really long shot.

they should just go out there and enjoy the games against aus and SA and not worry too much about the result.
