‘টেস্ট সিরিজ নিয়ে ভাবছি না’

হাঁটুর ইনজুরি আছে, কয়েক দিন ধরে জ্বর আর শ্বাসকষ্টেও ভুগছেন। কাল এই সাক্ষাত্কার দিতে গিয়ে তো অসুস্থই হয়ে পড়লেন একটু! ভারত-শ্রীলঙ্কার বিপক্ষে কাল থেকে শুরু সিরিজটা খেলতে পারবেন না বলে দারুণ হতাশ মাশরাফি বিন মুর্তজা, তবু স্বপ্ন দেখেন, যদি খেলা যায় এই সিরিজেই!

 আবার একটা সিরিজ, আবারও আপনি মাঠের বাইরে। কেমন লাগছে?
মাশরাফি বিন মুর্তজা: এই সিরিজটা খেলার খুব ইচ্ছা ছিল। ভালো দুটি দল খেলবে, অনেক দর্শক থাকবে। কামব্যাক সিরিজ হিসেবে নিজের কাছে নিজের অনেক প্রত্যাশাও থাকত। সবচেয়ে বড় কথা এই সিরিজে এমন দুটি দল আছে যারা খুব ভালো ক্রিকেট খেলছে এখন। আমার জন্য তাদের বিপক্ষে খেলাটা অনেক বড় চ্যালেঞ্জ হতো।্রচ্যালেঞ্জট� � নিতে পারলে ভালো লাগত। জিম্বাবুয়ে বা ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজের বিপক্ষে খেলতে না পারায়ও খারাপ লেগেছে, কিন্তু এতটা হতাশ ছিলাম না।

 ইনজুরির সর্বশেষ অবস্থা কী? মাঝখানে তো সবাই আশাবাদী হয়ে উঠেছিল আপনি হয়তো খেলবেন...
মাশরাফি: আমার কাছে মনে হচ্ছে আমি অনেকটা ফিট। তবে বল ডেলিভারি দেওয়ার সময় যে জাম্পটা দিতে হয়, ওটাতে অতটা আত্মবিশ্বাসী না এখনো। তবে ইনজুরির আগে যে অবস্থা ছিল সে অবস্থায় এখনো ফিরে আসিনি।

 এখন কী মনে হচ্ছে...কবে ফিরতে পারবেন মাঠে?
মাশরাফি: এখনো আশা করছি এই সিরিজের তিন নম্বর বা চার নম্বর ম্যাচটা খেলব। তার আগে নিজেকে ফিট প্রমাণ করতে হবে। হাতে অল্প সময়, এটাও একটা চ্যালেঞ্জ।

 ত্রিদেশীয় সিরিজের পর ভারতের বিপক্ষে টেস্ট সিরিজে ফেরার ব্যাপারে কি আশাবাদী?
মাশরাফি: টেস্ট সিরিজ নিয়ে এখন কোনো চিন্তাই করছি না। এমনকি নিউজিল্যান্ড নিয়েও ভাবছি না।্রএ মুহূর্তে ওয়ানডে আর টি-টোয়েন্টি খেলারই চিন্তাভাবনা।

 ভারতের বিপক্ষে সব সময়ই আপনার গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অবদান থাকে। এই সিরিজে ভারত আছে, আপনি নেই। বাড়তি কোনো হতাশা?
মাশরাফি: ভারত-শ্রীলঙ্কা দুটোই সমান দল। ভারতের বিপক্ষে হয়তো আগে ভালো খেলেছি, তবে ব্যাপার সেটা নয়। শ্রীলঙ্কার বিপক্ষে এর আগে যেবার ফাইনাল খেললাম, আমি ভালো খেলেছি। গ্রুপ পর্বের ম্যাচেও ভালো খেলেছি। আসলে বড় দলের বিপক্ষে খেলতেই বেশি ভালো লাগে, পারফর্ম করলে আরও বেশি। জিম্বাবুয়ের সঙ্গে ভালো খেলা আর শ্রীলঙ্কা-ভারতের বিপক্ষে পারফর্ম করা অবশ্যই একই জিনিস না।

 আপনি না থাকলে বাংলাদেশের পেস আক্রমণ দুর্বল হয়ে পড়ে। এবার তো দলের সঙ্গে থেকে সবাইকে কাছ থেকে দেখলেন। কতটুকু আত্মবিশ্বাসী মনে হয় অন্য পেসারদের?
মাশরাফি: ভালো...আমার মনে হয় পেস আক্রমণ আগের চেয়ে অনেক ভালো। মনে হচ্ছে ওরা ভালো করবে। যাদের আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটের অভিজ্ঞতা আছে, আশা করি তারা দায়িত্ব নিয়ে বল করবে।

 নতুন পেসার শফিউল ইসলামকে কেমন মনে হয়?
মাশরাফি: সুহাস (শফিউল ইসলাম) লিগে ভালো বল করছে। যদিও লিগে ভালো খেলা আর আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে ভালো করা এক নয়, পার্থক্য অনেক। যত তাড়াতাড়ি ও ব্যাপারটা ধরতে পারবে ততই ভালো। এই সিরিজটা অনেক চ্যালেঞ্জিং ওর জন্য। তবে ‘এ’ দল বা একাডেমির হয়ে খেলার অভিজ্ঞতা আছে সুহাসের। আশা করি ভালো করবে।

 এই সিরিজে কী লক্ষ্য থাকা উচিত বাংলাদেশ দলের?
মাশরাফি: বাংলাদেশ যেমন ক্রিকেট খেলছে অবশ্যই উচিত হবে ফাইনালে যাওয়ার চেষ্টা করা। ভালো খেলার চেষ্টা তো করতেই হবে, সেটার সঙ্গে ভালো খেলে যাতে জেতা যায় সেই চেষ্টা করতে হবে। জানি, ফাইনাল খেলা অনেক কঠিন হবে বাংলাদেশের পক্ষে। প্রতিপক্ষ দুুটি দল নিজেদের মধ্যে খুব ভালো ক্রিকেট খেলে এখানে এসেছে। কিন্তু এর মানে এটা না যে ওদের হারানো যাবে না।

- What he meant by he is not thinking about Tests but only ODIs and T20Is at this point? Is he considering to retire from Test cricket? IMO, that will be a wise career choice for him.

- He is afraid to make the jump before delivery. Given his knee situation, that's understandable. May be he needs to talk with Wasim Akram and Abdul Razzaq about how to generate reasonable pace without the hop.

I agree with you Eshen. It would be wise for Mashrafe to retire from Test cricket to prolong his career in international cricket.

He is a valuable asset in ODIs. Bangladesh team management should use him wisely.

Q: You will be out of the field even in this series. How do you feel?
A: Wanted to play this series involving two good teams and a lot of viewers. Would have had expected a lot from myself as a comeback series. More importantly the series involves playing against two very good teams who are playing fantastic cricket at the moment. So it would have been a big challenge. Would have been nice if I were up to the challenge. I missed playing against Zimbabwe and West Indies, but wasn’t so disappointed.

Q: What’s the update on injury? For some time people were hopeful that you might play…..
A: I feel I am quite fit. But I am still lacking some confidence about the jump while delivering the ball. I have not come back to the same stage I was before the injury.

Q: So when can you come back?
A: I am still hopeful that I might be able to play the 3rd or 4th game of this tournament. But I will have to convince first that I am fit. Don’t have much of a time to do that, and it’s a challenge I am willing to take.

Q: What about the test series against India?
A: I am not thinking of test at all at the moment. Not even thinking of New Zealand tour. At this point I am thinking to play ODIs and T20Is.

Q: You have always been good against India. India is here but you are not playing. Any extra bit of disappointment in that regard?
A: India and SriLanka are equally good team. I am played well against India before. I have played well against SriLanka in that final match; played well in group match too. The fact of the matter is it’s always nice to play well against bigger team, feels even better if I am able to perform. Playing well against Zimbabwe and performing well against India or SriLanka is not the quite the same.

Q: Your absence weakens Bangladesh’s pace attack. You have seen all the players this time around. How confident do you think they are?
A: They seem confident. I think pace attack is better than it used to be. It seems like they might do well. Ones who have international exposure will have to take more responsibility.

Q: What about Saiful Islam, the new pacer?
A: He has played well in domestic. But doing well in international is bit different. The quicker he picks up the difference the better it would be. This series would be quite a bit of challenge for him. He has played for A team and for Academy. Hopefully he will do well.

Q: what do you think should be the target for Bangladesh in this series?
A: The sort of cricket Bangladesh is playing now, they should try to reach final. We must not only play well, but also win while playing well. It will be very tough to reach final. Opponents have been playing very good cricket between them. But that does not mean they are unbeatable.

Sorry.. I could not agree... we are not Pakistan.. we don't have good pace bowlers... we need world class bowler like Mash in Tests....

I think masrafee is thinking about it match by match. He will be back in full swing pretty soon!

I don't think he will be ever back in full swing. If he has decided to quit tests and prolonge his career by playing only ODI and T20; he has taken the best possible decision for himself.

I felt and said it immediately After his injury as well. Not that I don't want him to be back, but there are some limitations of human body. Wish him all the best.

Mash is far from being world class in Test cricket. He is an ODI specialist who we had to field in Tests too becuase of lack of quality Test pacers.

He's a menace with the New Ball ... All he has to do is Bowl his 1st 7 overs and than bowl again for the 2nd New Ball.

until 2005 england tour his test average was just a tid bit more expensive than zaheer khan who is probably india's best ever Test pacer in the modern era after kapil and srinath. unfortunately his injuries and our habitual need to drop catches has cost his average a good 6 units.

মাশরাফি বিন মুর্তজা: কোনো মতামত নেই। নো কমেন্ট।
মাহমুদউল্লাহর ইনিংসটা নিশ্চয়ই আজ (গতকাল) দেখেছেন। কেমন লাগল?
মাশরাফি: আমার মনে হয় টেস্ট ক্রিকেটে বাংলাদেশের পক্ষে অন্যতম সেরা ইনিংস রিয়াদেরটা (মাহমুদউল্লাহ)। রিয়াদ যদি আজ (গতকাল) ৯৬ রান না করত তাহলে কিন্তু আমরা দেড় শ রানে অলআউট হয়ে যেতাম। টেস্টের প্রথম দিনে অনেকটা পিছিয়ে গেলেও রিয়াদের ইনিংসের কারণে আমরা এখনো ওই অবস্থায় চলে যাইনি যে আর কিছুই করা যাবে না। দেড় শতে অলআউট হলে বলতে পারেন প্রথম দিনেই হেরে যেতাম। রিয়াদের ইনিংস ম্যাচটাকে বাঁচিয়েছে।
টপ-অর্ডার ব্যাটসম্যানদের ব্যর্থতার কারণ কী মনে হয়?
মাশরাফি: একটা ব্যাটসম্যানকেও তো মনে হয় না দেখলাম বল ছাড়তে। তামিমের ক্ষেত্রে কিছু এক্সট্রা অর্ডিনারি বোলিং হয়েছে, ও ভালো বলে আউট হয়েছে। কিন্তু আশরাফুলের আউট, সাকিবের আউট আমাদের পিছিয়ে দিয়েছে। না হলে এ ইনিংসে হয়তো তিন শ-সাড়ে তিন শ রান হতো।
চট্টগ্রাম টেস্টের সময় তো আপনি জাতীয় লিগ খেলতে মাঠে ছিলেন। টেস্টের খবর কীভাবে পাচ্ছিলেন?
মাশরাফি: দলের ব্যাটিংয়ের সময় টিভিতে খেলা দেখেছি। লাঞ্চ বা চা-বিরতির সময়ও ড্রেসিংরুমে গিয়ে টিভির সামনে বসেছি। মাঠে থাকলে খবর নিয়েছি এর-ওর কাছ থেকে।
খবর পেয়ে কী মনে হচ্ছিল? ওই মুহূর্তগুলোর অনুভূতি একটু বলবেন...
মাশরাফি: মুশফিকুরের সেঞ্চুরির কথা শুনে খুব ভালো লাগছিল। ওই সময়ে ফিল্ডিংয়ে ছিলাম...। আশা করছিলাম বাংলাদেশ ড্র করবে, কিন্তু হয়নি।
সব মিলিয়ে চট্টগ্রাম টেস্টের পারফরম্যান্স যদি মূল্যায়ন করেন...
মাশরাফি: ভালো খেলছে...প্রথম ইনিংসে হয়তো মুশফিকুরের ওই আউটটাতে আমাদের ক্ষতি হয়ে গেছে। সেট হয়ে আউট হয়ে গেছে, ও নিজেও বুঝেছে সেটা। মুশফিকুর থাকলে হয়তো ৫০-৬০ রানের লিড হতো। আমি জয়ের কথা বলব না, তবে টেস্টের ফলাফল অন্যরকম হতে পারত। সময় তো কাটত আরও...। হয়তো আরও এক-দেড় ঘণ্টা বেশি খেলা হতো।
ওই টেস্টের আগে বাংলাদেশের সামর্থ্য নিয়েই প্রশ্ন তুলেছিলেন শেবাগ। আপনার কি মনে হয় তাঁকে কিছুটা হলেও ভুল প্রমাণ করা গেছে?
মাশরাফি: ক্রিকেট যারা বোঝে তারা হয়তো বলবে, হ্যাঁ, শেবাগ ঠিকই বলেছে। আমাদের কাছেও শেবাগ অনেক বড় আইডল। তবে ও চাইলে আমাদের কোনো খেলোয়াড়ের সমালোচনা করতে পারত, একটা দেশের প্রতি ন্যূনতম শ্রদ্ধা দেখানো উচিত। টেন্ডুলকার এত বড় খেলোয়াড়, সে কিন্তু কিছু বলে না। এটা তো ক্রিকেট! আর প্রতিটি ম্যাচেই আমরা এখন ভারতের বিপক্ষে বলার মতো কিছু করছি। ওই কথা বলার পর প্রথম টেস্টে বাংলাদেশের পারফরম্যান্স দেখে শেবাগের কী উপলব্ধি হয়েছে, সেটা ও-ই ভালো বলতে পারবে।
জাতীয় লিগে একটা ম্যাচ খেললেন। ইনজুরির কী অবস্থা? নিউজিল্যান্ড সফরের ব্যাপারে কতটা আশাবাদী?
মাশরাফি: কিছু স্পেল ভালো করেছি। এখন ঢাকায় কোচের সঙ্গে বোলিং করব। কোচেরও একটা আইডিয়া নেওয়ার দরকার। এটা অনেক বড় সিদ্ধান্ত। আমার একার পক্ষে এ সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া সম্ভব নয়। কোচের যদি দেখে মনে হয় আমার এ বোলিং ঠিক আছে, তখন কোচ হয়তো সিদ্ধান্ত নেবে।
আবার অস্ট্রেলিয়া যাওয়ার কথা বলেছিলেন...
মাশরাফি: অস্ট্রেলিয়ায় কবে যাব সেটা নির্ভর করছে নিউজিল্যান্ড যাওয়া না-যাওয়ার ওপর।
