Plus you would find a lot more regular ones like abbu-baba, ammu-ma, bhaiya-dada, dadi/nani-thakurma, khala-mashi, fupu-pishi ..

We usually say snaan, its the hardcore Ghotis who pronounce it as chaan.

Also porjonto: obdi, maine:beton, bajeappto:chhintai, bawtey:shetai etc are interchangeable, as we use both. I belive its the same with Bangladeshi people also.

I'll try to add my inputs on this tomorrow, ekhon ghumer ghore mathai kichhu aaschhe na.

I did notice a difference up in Siliguri where I found them to speak must faster.

To be honest (and excuse me Sum_1 bhai), I find kolkata accent to be utterly irritating.
May be my ears are not just used to with it.

More or less every district has different accents. In the south (Sundarbans area) they speak in the "dhokhne" accent. Similarly Bankura, Birbhum, Bishnupur, Dinajpur, Jalpaiguri etc all have slightly different accents. Although it does not vary as much as in case of Bangladesh.

There were two Slyheti students in our college, and when they spoke among themselves, we couldn't understand a single word they are saying.

I noticed they refer to Bangladeshis as 'bangals'. I thought we are all 'bangals', east or west.

Mone Dukkhho pelam.

If you mean the korlum, khelum, gelum accent, then I'm totally with you. Even I find that annoying. But I believe the normal Kolkata accent is one of the most refined accents in Bengali (I might be biased though). Its like the English from England.

Kolkata has two kinds of people, one who are native to the region and the other who migrated at the time of partition. The former calls the later Bangals, and the later calls the former Ghotis. There was a healthy rivalry between the two groups in earlier times, best reflected in football (Mohan Bagan vs East Bengal matches).

Although that rivalry has simmered down in the recent times, we still like to pull each other's leg now and often.

Political strike: BD: Hartal W.B: Bandh

Duration wise 1 hartal = approximately 3 bandhs.

Speaking of Bangals, you'll find a short excerpt from a Bhanu skit here:

There seems to be some confusion over what actually constitutes West Bengal accent/language.

I have been accused of using Kolkata'r bhasha merely because I say "bolechhi" instead of boltesi.
As if being a Bangladeshi means you cannot speak the formal version of a word.

There are many words which West Bengalis use more than us; and even though I have ancestry from WB, none of my family uses them; e.g. Boddo, Fatafati,

Another I have noticed is many Kolkatites dont pronounce "chh" and say chi, so its khela "dekhchi"

Well then what is the perfect standard Bengali ascent- khaisi, gosul korsi or kheyechi, snan korechi?
There should be a reference somewhere about the standard one... Or which one is the more ancient one and which one is the more transformed version?

Also I think in case of BD the informal personal pronouns (tui, tor, toder etc) are not used among friends as much as we do here in W.B. It's more aapni or tumi, even among very close friends.
