Default Rain returns to delay start

The rains returned to put the second NatWest Series match, between New Zealand and West Indies at Edgbaston, under threat. Morning rain left the outfield sodden and the covers on the square, and the prospects of play, at the moment, still don't look positive.

The latest the game can start is 4.32pm, and even though Steve Rouse, the groundsman, is hopeful the heavy barrage of rain to hit the Midlands this afternoon will pass Edgbaston by, Jeremy Lloyds, one of the umpires, did not sound so optimistic.

"The best we can do is just wait and see, and hope we get some respite from the weather," he said. "We could have started on time if the rain didn't come back this morning, but it doesn't look great at the moment."

The players will take lunch at 1.45pm, and the umpires will take another look after that.

New Zealand (possible) Stephen Fleming (capt), Nathan Astle, Hamish Marshall, Scott Styris, Craig McMillan, Chris Cairns, Brendon McCullum (wk), Chris Harris, Daniel Vettori, Daryl Tuffey, Ian Butler.

West Indies (possible) Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Brian Lara (capt), Dwayne Smith, Dwayne Bravo, Ricardo Powell, Ridley Jacobs (wk), Darren Sammy, Ravi Rampaul, Jermaine Lawson.

The light drizzle finally stopped, and although the clouds were still a deathly grey, the umpires ordered the covers to be removed and said they hoped play would start at around 2.15pm.

It is going to be a 35 overs match and play will start at 2.25 local time.

Stephen Fleming has won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Had been watching some good cricket. But again interruption by rain.

Yes, it starts to rain! Umbrellas starts to pop up and the players leave the field covers being rushed in it's pouring down at the moment and all the covers are out (Source: Cricinfo)
