Hello Mary Sinkler,
It is a very good idea to move from and change the metal halide lamps to LED. Metal Halide generates tremendous amount of heat, consumes extreme amount of energy and for me, the lumen output is very poor and photometric color is an eye-sore. It distorts color.
LED on the other hand became super cheap now and heavily available from many many manufacturers. And they suck very little energy in comparison to the MH. And also generates very little heat. Lasts also much much longer (many 1000 hours).
Your stadium is on the right direction.

Hello again Mary,
I hope you are not spamming or promoting Universe LED lights here in our forum.
Just in case you are not, the Universe 'Core' series is a Chinese production, and I have never tested one, so cannot vouch for the product.
But, in reference to your initial question regarding Metal Halide vs LED - refer to the example below:
A 900 watt consuming LED from Core will compete with 1800-2500 watt Metal Halide. Generating 130 lumen/watt, with a total lumen output of 117,000. Hope this helps.
LEDs will save your stadium a lot of energy cost.
