Shakib Al Hasan has achieved wondrous things in his career for Bangladesh. He has hoisted our flag high in the global stage numerous times. Recently, he has done it once again as Lord’s Cricket Ground has declared Shakib’s name in their top 20 players list for 2016.
Lord’s Cricket Ground’s official facebook page has started revealing their top 20 from yesterday. And in no. 20, they’ve put the Bangladeshi all-rounder. They’ve also made a video showcasing why they’ve put Shakib in their illustrious list.
Shakib is the top all-rounder in the ODI format. He has surpassed many greats to achieve this position. At one point, he was above Jacque Kallis and Shane Watson when they were playing. Now, he is still holding that position with all the dynamic all-rounders of the world.
Shakib is one of the 3 players in the long history of Test cricket to score a hundred and take 10 wickets in the same match. The other two in this elite list are Australia’s England’s Sir Ian Botham and Pakistan’s Imran Khan.
Shakib has been Bangladesh’s star performer from a very young age. That is reflected in his record of being the youngest ODI player to score 4000 runs and take 200 wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan’s achievements are endless. He will achieve a lot more in the coming years. The recognition form Lord’s will be yet another milestone for the future legend.

Shakib will never be that type of batsman who we want him to be. A solid and polished no. 5 who plays orthodox cricketing shots and is always dominating and a grafter when need be. There were times in his career he was struggling to time the ball but still managed to churn out runs and hence looked like a very scrappy batsman. There were other times where he would just see the ball like a basketball and be smashing boundaries consecutively regardless of where the ball is pitched. And other times he nudges the ones and twos but cant hit a boundary to save his life.

He is just that weird batsman who basically has so much talent going for him that he just scores runs somehow and someway (its helps that he is very good at rotating strike). He will never really look like a polished player but he will always be a supremely talented batsman with a lionheart and a real fighting mentality and competitive drive, which gives him that edge over batsman who even might be polished and/or have solid techniques, to perform not just in home grounds but in grounds all over the world.

Shakib averages 50 from 2011 onward. Last year was his worst year in terms of battin where he averaged 26. But keep in mind it was only two match and it was a rank turner. Here are the breakdown of the years.

2011 - 50.11
2012 - 51.25
2013 - 45
2014 - 47.11
2015 - 58.80
2016 - 26.50
2017 - 92*

So call him impatient or whatever you want, but he has been churning out the numbers.

Another interesting stat. Here's a look at comparison with other players. The only so called patient player to beat his batting average happens to be Mominul, who averages 51. The rest are not even close. The likes of Tamim and Mushfiqur are trailing by an average of 10 which is quite substantial when it comes to averages.

So yeah, I hope Shakib continues to be this attacking batsmen who takes the fight back to the opposition. We have seen what grinding continuously like a sheep can do to a team(Take a look at pakistan if you want proof).
