Nick change
I think the forum admins should stop nick changes unless someone is willing to use his real name.
Changing nick becomes really annoying when someone with 3500+ posts does it for no apparent reason.

you could have posted this in so many threads.. "suggestiion" "attention tigers_eye", etc instead you chose to open a new thread. That's a bit of annoyance. The fight to open a match thread, cute at first but now is super annoying. If you are given so many chances, I think cats_eye should also be forgiven for wanting to change his nick to something different.
Moderators are changing the name, if they don't feel annoyed - you should not complain. But I do agree with you that the change is really unnnecessary (but not necessarily annoying) unless they are switiching to real name.

If nick changing was not a big deal at all, then all forum softwares would allow users to change their nick at will (like signatures).
Changing nick also creates a mess in the forum archive. I think "tigers_eye" has been referred as "cats_eye" at least 100+ times in other people's quote/posts. It will confuse the new members and guests a lot, if they sometime browse the old threads.
Many people has been changing nicks since last year. I didn't like this, but didn't complain either because many of them wanted to use their real name or hasn't been in the forum for a long time.

People get used to change. Remember Rubu? What was his nick before?
I, personally, prefer people use their real names but I do see Spitfire's very valid point with such changes - disrupts context and makes things very confusing to newcomers. Spitty - care to change to your real name?

Personally I like to use the same nick in as many places as possible. So I'm not changing.
Using real name has problems. In forums we are used to diverse nicks, and I think it makes identifying inviduals more comfortable. Many of us may have same or very similar real name. Latest example: "Zunaid" and "ZunIAD". The latter guy used to log-in with "Zuniad" in the first couple of days, and it made things really confusing for many of us.
I think you should tell him to change his nick to something different

You may think about a locked thread where the moderators maintain a table something link this:
Nick Change Reference Table | Old Nick | Current Nick | Cats_eye
| Tigers_eye
| Habibul_fan
| James_90
| Agent_smith
| Rubu
| Rajputro
| Mahmood
|
Each Nick change will result in a new table entry. This may help reduce the nick confusion.

I agree with BB's suggestion, a stickied thread in the support forum to keep track of nick changes and requests should help other members informed of who is who.The table should be placed in the first post and updated by a mod when necessary. Please also include dates of nick changes.

I don't like this idea. No other forum has this kind of sticky.
Forcing all nick changers to carry the nick change info for at least a month can solve the temporary problems. But to prevent the long term effects there's no alternative of stopping freestyle nick changing.

i think whoever changes thier nick could use thier signature to let others know.
for example, their signature would say:
"Tigers_eye, formerly known as Cat's_eye, changed nick on 12/8/**"
if they keep that sig for a month or so, the regulars and the active members would surely know by then about the changes and as with anything else, cope with the minor alteration with quite ease.

Like real life, virtual life should allow changing of name. Without legal hassles for real life name change, in virtual life you just request your admin to do it
I see no problem. Thats life
PS: BTW, this thread will be moved to Support soon.

For anyone to understand the significance of changing my name, I thought it would be Spitty. I am disappointed. Cats_eye - JO era. Tigers_eye - Life after JO.
I was selfish. Didn't think of the new comers. Sorry to cause pain and sufferings for those who will miss JO, I mean cats_eye. Thank you for your Love.

True. Well in that case like real life, we we should start using aka to link all the different names the user used before. For example:
tigers_eye (aka bilai_eye aka kukur_eye aka khekShial_eye) .... something like that

I think people should be allowed to change their nicks whenever and however many times they want. It adds more unpredictability to the forum in a fun way.
