Death of 2 myths
1. bangladesh can't win without ashraful in the team
2. swann is the best finger spinner on the planet (give me a break, after his performances against teams that are anywhere decent players of spin, I would like to see what english press says about him now)
mods, please forgive me for opening too many threads, I'm a little excited at the moment !

Swann is an excellent bowler. He is going through a bad patch but who doesn't in their career. His average speaks for itself.

Here is the death of another myth.....
Shakib doesn't care about the national team, he only cares about his flat, county cricket, appearance money, fame, his cliques....
See those tears at the end? That is someone who lives and breathes Bangladesh Cricket. He might not always get it right, but never ever question his commitment to the team.

Don't think anyone actually meant that. Not just Shakib, we all had a tear in our eyes after his match. Tamim couldn't even speak and Shamim Chowdhoury was ascetically happy.

I am not sure #1 is still disapproved in some people's mind.
If he was in the team f(or example instead of Rakibul) and scored 0 like Rakibul, some people would still give credit for his dance and cheerleading role. They would point out that (his dance in the field) was the game changing moment.

i'm yet to be convinced that Rock or Naeem did significantly better today than Ash would have done. but right now is not the time to bring this issue up...
as for #2, swann's numbers through since jan 2009 seemed to indicate he has been the best finger spinner - and by some distance out there - with vettori, ajmal, and shakib being distant competitors. one bad game, or even a bad world cup shouldn't change 2 years worth of stats.

@Swann - this is how you get treated when you bowl in subcontinent flat/slow tracks. There's no sharp turn on offer as in England.

The team as a unit performs FAR better without Ash. Eg: NZ series, Zim series and now this match - hard to think of that as a coincidence. All the above players should get their chances while Ash has got more than enough chances despite failing over and over. And Naeem bowled well.

its coincidence. i'm NOT suggesting the team needs Ashraful to win games, since they've obviously done it without him several times in the recent past.
however, you cannot say the null hypothesis is therefore necessarily true ie "the team plays better without Ashraful".
thats a logical fallacy. eg "without A, B happens, therefore with A, not B happens".

Probably. but whenever I've seen him play, the side just looks dire - lacking any fighting spirit. Either way, you're better of without him.

I couldn't agree more. Think for a moment--when was the last time Ash won us an ODI game? Then ask yourself--when was the last time Ash played a supporting role in winning a match? might've been sometime in 2009. If you're looking for an innings played more recently then ask--when was the last time Ash played an innings of any significance?
I remember that date and looked it up on statsguru to confirm--it was Januray 4th 2010 when he scored 75 against SL in a losing effort.
Fifteen months have passed and here are his ODI innings since...
29, 13, 4, 5, 1, 31, 20, 9, 14, 13, 6, 1, 11 @ a whopping avg of 12.07
Where's the Eid innings people talk about? Eid comes twice a year, right? it's been 15 fricken months and not a single innings of any significance!
Even someone like Raqibul played an important innings against Ire only two games ago and we start bashing him for failing two matches later. And what has Ash done in the meantime? Nada

Today Ash would have scored a ton! MMW.

What good does Rokibul bring to the team? Show me ONE reason.
Between the two, I would take neither if given a choice. But if there's no choice, I'ld go for Ash over Rokibul...at least he can pump up the team sometimes.

WC average 23 versus average 6 is not good enough? Their last one year average comparison is not good enough for you?
"pump up team" is just hype, no value in my book. If we need a player to pump up, we should rather included Momtaz in the team.
Rokibul has limited value. But Ash is already expired good, he has no value what so ever. So I would always choose Rokibul over "no good anymore" Ashraful.
Now if you want SN instead Rokibul, Then I can agree.

Couldn't agree more. Ashraful is lucky to be in the 15, hope his career comes to an end after this world cup. Hard to believe that he has been handed Grade A contract.

Ash is crap and the team is better of without him. He seems to really affect the team morale or maybe just dire luck. Either way, it's lose lose with Ash.
Hope it's the end of his damn career.

Does "dew factor" mean anything to you?
You give me a break....he is one of the most dangerous bowlers when not subject to extreme weather conditions.
