Default CI: Rubel advised surgery for injured shoulder

Quote:
Rubel Hossain, the Bangladesh fast bowler, has been advised surgery on his injured right shoulder. The operation could keep Rubel out of cricket for up to six months. He had picked up the injury during the home Test series against Pakistan in December, and was forced off the field after bowling just two overs in the opening game of the Bangladesh Premier League.

"We have done double MRIs and had to [crosscheck things], and that took some time," Debashish Chowdhury, the Bangladesh Cricket Board's physician, told the Daily Star. "We have submitted the official report yesterday [Sunday]. We have suggested that he needs an operation and it should be done in South Africa. It is getting a little late regarding Rubel [he should have the surgery at the earliest], and the operation is [expected to be] very complicated. We have no first-hand experience of it." The extent of the damage, and subsequently the degree of complication of the surgery, will be known only after Rubel consults with the doctor in South Africa.

"After the operation, he will [most likely] need six months to recover. If he [only requires a simpler] surgery, he will need six weeks to come back. He needs the operation because he can't throw or dive, though, he can still bowl."

Shafiul Islam, another of Bangladesh's injured fast bowlers, has also been asked to consult with a specialist in Cape Town. He too is hampered by a shoulder problem - he had done his shoulder some damage during last month's Asia Cup. Chowdhury said, however, it did not look as though Shafiul would require any surgery. "Shafiul can continue the conservative treatment that he is undertaking."

Mighty blow for us. Rubel's injury looks worse than we thought. He may miss the T20 WC too. Having both Rubel and Shafiul injured, we are left with Mashrafe and Nazmul and both of them are injury prone too

I just hope this isn't a repeat of what happened with Rasel back in 07/08. He was never the same again. I desperately want to see Mash, Nazmul and Rubel bowling together.

Exactly. It is very difficult for a bowler to come back strongly after Injury. Rasel is a prime example. But Rubel also has Mash to look at who is the return Master.

Get well soon Rubel

Better now than later.
We have no cricket around for next few months so its best that he should have his operation asap.
He could be fit by the year end.

Young man. Plenty of time to recover and come back.
Just need the proper nurture and rehab.
Wish him all the best of luck.

Its been 4 months since Rubel got injured and now BCB physician is saying his situation is complicated !? It took them 4 months to realize that ? I really doubt his (Debashish Chowdhury) skills and knowledge about sports injury and treatment.

But we need Rubel to be able to bowl fast not just cannily like Mash and Nazmul..we hardly have anyone who can touch 140 kmph regularly. We'll need it especially in Test matches.

Hope you get well soon Rubel. May you have a good convalescence

that makes ABUL HASAN even more valuable as an option. We must take good care of him.
We may have a look at Alamin Hossain too! There must be something in him that made him highly successfull in recent times - (NCL, DPL, Eng 'A' matches)

Abul Hasan is tall & can bowl fast. But he struggles for line & length at times.
Alamin go upto 135 km/h but relies more on accuracy.

Abul Hasan & Alamim should be given some matches to hone their skills.

These are the guys we need to start developing so that we aren't just relying on a handful of pacers. Alauddin Babu also should be considered as he showed some skills in the BPL and was 1 of the highest wicket takers in the DPL. Kamrul Islam Rabbi has also been in the A team for a while now. Since we saw Abul Hasan in the Asia Cup team, it seems he'll be the 1st 1 out of the youngsters to get chances in the national team.

Jisaan, would be great to have Afghanistan/Netherlands tour us round about now wouldn't it? See how the team does without Shak-TI and experiment with new kids like Anamul, Al-Amin and Abul Hasan

Why South Africa? Why not England? If the surgery is complicated send him to a bona fide first world country like England, AUS, or NZ. No RSA/India please. Even Malaysia or Singapore could work.

Rubel should be sent soon for the surgery if it is required. My prayers are with him.

My prayers are with Rubel. InshAllah, he'll join us soon in no time just like Mashrafe. I like this new physio (and the way he is working with Mashrafe). So, Rubel will be in good hand for the recovery road inshAllah.
