Dhaka Metro rail construction work begins

But on another note:
Laying down this commuter rail, signal stations, street crossings, stations will have a logistic hardship for Dhaka, the crowd and the admins. You will have to acquire people's land, a lot of land for this. Displace people, bastuhara, slums etc. If not, more (whatever little bit empty, green (or bare) space we have left in the greater Dhaka area) land will be occupied.

Traffic will become MORE hectic.
Expect larger and longer jam.
Have to watch out for Hartal bhangchur, vandalism (as we tend to have zero respect for public properties),
crime in and around this infrastructure,
Mastaani,
Pocket-mars,
black-market tickets,
Jalau-porau kormo-shuchi,
graffiti (not creative, just emook bhaikey vote diin, tomuk chachar mookti chai),
Aloo-jhaal-moori walas, Tengra Maach bikretas,
Tender-baji,
Corruption at the rail, ordering el-cheapo old engine and new bogi tarin cars from vietnaam,
higher ratio of balu (sand) in concrete
Regular Attohotta, self-beheading...

Train signal fail korey, Rikshaw signal na meney train-er nichey porey shishu nidhon - 20 minutes later train-e agun by khepa otherwise bekaar/uttejito public

First 6 months beautiful, like Shishu Park 1980, on the 7th month train has turned into free open public toilet, oshoijjo urine/ammonia gondho
On the 7th months train cars have no batti (lights) - sob shuri koira niya Dhoaikhaaley bikroi
on the 10th month all the Janala dorja (windows/doors) gone....
one year later, no more seats left, only random metal frames visible.

BUT, if successfully executed, it could be a very good thing for the city of Dhaka and her people. Could help reduce pollution a bit too, by reducing cars, buses after introducing the commuter rail system.

Wholeheartedly agree with every thing you said, it is quite difficult to improve facilities and infrastructure in subcontinental cities because by and large our cities are not planned to begin with, you will find slums next to a posh neighborhood, poverty co-existing with wealth and prosperity, overpopulation etc. Still they are ours and we have to make do with what we have got. It will probably take another century for our cities to become truly developed like the first world ones. I wish Dhaka all the best on this project.

We call it CNG in Bangladesh, not tuk-tuk. Why CNG? because it stands for Compressed Natural Gas. So when your aunty says "amgo CNG dorkar" what she's really saying is that we need a vehicle that uses methane stored at high pressure as fuel.

Yes, most major cities either have functioning Metro or under construction. Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Gurgaon,Mumbai, Jaipur already has metro connectivity while it is under construction in Hyderabad, Kochi, Navi Mumbai, Nagpur, Lucknow, Noida and
Ahmadabad. Kolkata has the oldest metro system in India and of course South Asia.

Yes, very much reliable, millions use them on a daily basis, all major Indian cities have fine transportation facilities, ask any poster here who visited India.

Probably will take 100-150 years to cover whole dhaka.

About time. Dhaka needed this beginning of the decade. Also need to build some high skyscrapers. If the soil isn't suitable for such then build it in Sylhet, CTG, Mymensingh, or somewhere where it's highland with good soil that can withstand such big buidlings. BD needs a few city with the central cricle being over 40 storeys tall. Because land is scarce, being small nation with a big population,got to plan well ahead. I know Purbachal will be planned and will have big skyscrapers but need few more in areas where it's suitable.

Absolutely! When land is scarce, the only way to grow is vertically.

I keep hearing soil in Dhaka is not strong enough to withstand such big storeys but there's thousands of mid rises in one zone - how is that possible and not few 50plus storeys in an area where less mid rises?

Hence I said earlier post, got to find where it's suitable and plan for future. Also, got to make CTG much bigger and planned. Surely there's areas available in CTH around bandarban to make a big city around the pahari areas highland which would enable better living for all concerned and move the backward paharis into more modern ways. Look at the recent landslide too many living in such ways not safe instead they need hill towns/city, built on top of the pahars.

Never heard of Dhaka soil not being good for skyscrapers. I don't know anything about architecture to know why that is. Sucks if this is true.

CTG will grow organically on its own. As Bangladesh's primary port city, and as BD's economy grows, so will CTG. Also if BIMSTEC pans out as planned, we may see CTG grow massively within this decade.
