are we playing the world cup to win or get a respectable result?
in case we are playing to win..then we should only think about beating each team.build up the tempo.we may win or not.no one knows.but definetely try.if we are gonna qualify, why not think about going as top of this group.its not impossible and for that we should just concentrate in each game.this is in our home.and we can show what we are made off.its very simple.if we win all games from now on.we should easily qualify and be among the top two.
but from the trends in the threads what seems like the fans themselves dont believe in winning..most threads are about how are we gonna qualify..net runrate, head to head, what if this what if that..lots of ifs and buts..these are doubts not belief..
i can understand.we have not tasted such heights.so its hard,in experience is there.as we win belief will also come.but atleast this much can be expected..we are following this team for years now.and we know them.so atleast believe in ourselves.
At the end who will qualify, no one knows..but those who will be the best to do it.and doubt doesnt bring the best out of any one.

IMO, this win by Ireland against England was definitely not good for BD. It gives Ireland 2 point and puts BD under greater pressure to win more matches, as they have to win 2 more matches to progress.

It is all good. England do not deserve the QF berth.

I had to revive this thread.
I guess none of the scenarios are valid since SA is also in the competion now.
Can we please have some new scenarios please?

OK, here it is, in a different format because I wanna do it quick. Given Neth will not win any game, here is the standing:
| Team | Match | Win | Lose | Tie | Point | India | 4 | 3 | 0 | 1 | 7 | WI | 4 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 6 | Bang | 5 | 3 | 2 | 0 | 6 | Eng | 5 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 5 | SA | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 4 | Ire | 5 | 2 | 3 | 0 | 4 | Neth | 6 | 0 | 6 | 0 | 0 | | The easiest way for us to go through is to win against SA (keep in mind I assume Neth lost).
Or, if WI beats Eng, and we lose to SA, we are fighting with the Irish both with 6 points. NRR comes to play
If SA loses to Ireland (possible), we again get a shot at going to the 2nd round with 3 wins (assuming India beats SA as well).
If England wins, we basically will be in trouble (for 3 wins) because then we'll have to compete with WI who has a way better RR than we do.
I'll try to write a more prepared post soon.
For WI vs Eng we should root for WI
and for Ire vs SA we should root for whoever has the worse RR. If we do not win against SA, this one is tricky because we have to compete with whoever wins here in NRR.

Ok, a different perspective. Beside Netherland games, what games are left and who we should root for and why.
1. Ind V SA - India is up there, it's like adding point to infinity from our perspective. The less point SA has the better for us because we might be able to qualify at their expense. So, root for india tomorrow.
2. Ireland V SA - the trickiest one: It is very likely that we will have to compete in NRR with one of these two. So, let the one with lesser NRR win.
3. Eng V WI: WI for sure. If they win, Eng flies back home, and we get the ticket to QF.
4. BD V SA - a win here will see us through.
5. Ind - WI - India for the same reason as first one. Even more importantly, if WI failed to beat Eng, we would want WI to lose badly.

We play NL next up and it won't be an easy game.
Good thing we will know the results of the Eng vs WI game before playing SA.

No one saying it is going to be easy, but it is one that we should win. If we do not beat Netherland, we probably should not deserve to be in QF.
Easy or hard, we should beat them on our backyard.

we all want a whopping win, bat first post 450 and then bowl them out for 7 in just over 5 overs.
however, a win as scrappy and ugly as they come will yield the same number of points...2.
we won't make it on NRRs, all we need are those 2 points. and then we can think of taking 2 more against the Choke artists from down South.

I think the straight forward way to move to QF is:
1. We beat NED
2. WI beat ENG
3. IRE don't win any.
We won't qualify if it comes down to NRR.

Easiest equation, BD beats NED, WI beats ENG, BD goes through.
Please Gayle and co, don't make the calculations complicated.

With all those iffs and butts , already complicated life becomes more complecated.
For me its simple solution.
We will beat Netherland and then beat South Africa, and that's how we will go to the next round.
For the rest of the games in our group, who cares who wins and who lose.

If I'm not mistaken the match is supposed to be a day match where players will be playing in hot and humid conditions the whole time something I'm sure our visitors won't be looking forward to.

I know, I just hope we don't brain fart to the point where we end up losing the game altogether. At the end of the day it won't matter how ugly the win was, just like it didn't against England or even Ireland. The India and WI games really hurt our NRR. 370 and 58, seriously?

Ok SA is more or less out of reach now. Our best bet is to beat SA and Holland now. Or pray for WI to beat England.
