Default Thanks Ricky Ponting

Always been a fan of him and still a supporter of the AUSTRALIAN cricket team. I posted this here to take some joy from the fact that the defending champs consider us highly unlike some other greats (Mentioning names would be disrespect!)

http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc_cric...ry/505803.html

....................Australia have not lost against a non-Test side since 1983, when they were upset by Zimbabwe in the World Cup. They face Kenya on Sunday and Canada on Wednesday, and there is a chance they could face Bangladesh - the ninth-ranked among the full members in ODI - in the quarter-finals after their memorable victory over England in Chittagong.

"They've never been classified as a minnow," Ponting said of Bangladesh. "They beat us in Cardiff a few years ago. With all their games at home, there was always a chance they could cause a couple of upsets, last night was probably one. They let one slip against the West Indies with a bit of an abysmal performance, but in their conditions they are a very competitive team."

I used to be a fan of the Australian team, especially the one captained by Ian Chappell. But, I don't like the current Australian side or Ponting. I can stand a lot of things, but not arrogance. Which is why I used to like Kapil Dev's Indian team, but have a strong dislike for the current one. (There is one player even one this India team that I respect, Sachin. I would have hated him if he was a mastaan like Ponting, but Sachin truly embodies cricket.) Finally, no one can deny Bradman's greatness. There is no other explanation for the 99.94 average. He was proud, but polite and definitely not arrogant.

Australia's next series is in Bangladesh and he knows that if he says something "Ulta Palta" then public will throw Dhil at him in BD. He is just playing it safe

First of all, there is no reason to "thank" Ponting for his words.
We dont live on his mercy nor does his words means a world to us.

If its anything, we've earned it.
Some just would acknowledge it, others wont.

Now, lets see what he has said:

So, apparently, we are not minnows, but our wins are "upsets" ?
Isn't that contradictory itself ??

I've always been a big fan of Ponting and the Australian team, but not above my own.
I understand his arrogance. Had our team ruled the world like the they did, chances are we'd have shown such arroagance ourselves.
But lately, the Kingdom has fallen and they have been reduced to being mere mortals. That has taught him some humility which he lacked earlier. After all, with a bunch of no names in the team, you have no other choice.

He knows very well there is a probable game against Bangladesh on the cards. If not, there is this upcoming 3 match series against us and such is the current health of the Australian team that their once all conquering captain is forced to tone down his words, knowing it could all backfire.

And I'm not thanking Ponting for that.
Its our rise and we've earned it.

No one takes Bangladesh as a pushover no more. Allhamdullillah!

But thats beacause of the improvement for the last few years. Lets pray that the improvement still continues and that better players come into the team to make it even more stronger..

I was never an Australia fan nor of Ponting because of the obvious reason - arrogance and yes, there were never one or two encouraging words from that continent. As far as I remember, this must be the first time and I do not see anything wrong with what Ricky said. Well, we are still ranked at the bottom, so a win against a test playing nation is an upset - nothing wrong about that. And yes, we earned it through the NZ series.

But I am a bit surprised of our speculations of whom we will be playing in QF!!! Each and every win against a test playing nation is still cheered as a historical win (as a matter of fact, they are) and a single such victory makes us forget our recent past. Just like this win over England made us forget that in the last six months we lost to Ireland, Holland and Zimbabwe.

At least Ponting is showing a better character than Sidhu or that Mondira matari.

Looks like he is ready for wash, AUS running short on laundry now-a-days.

^^ Seems like he is calling for his own misery.
A series defeat to Bangladesh and he would be risking his job.
