BanglaCricket XI - No. 5 Batsmen
Mother Thread: http://www.banglacricket.com/alochon...76#post1518076
Who do you think should bat at no. 5 for Bangladesh in ODI's?
The no. 5 batsman is the rock of the middle order. He must be able to either restore an innings or continue to build it. He should be confident in playing spin and be able to play on wearing pitches (often it is them who need to carry a side over the line). The no.5 takes a real anchor role in the team.
So who do you think should fill this role for Bangladesh?
Discuss.

i think right here is where we decided whether riyad has a spot in the team and possibly if nasir has the #7 spot.
riyad just can't bat at #6 or #7 in one-dayers, i think most people what rahim at #6, #7 is to low for him and he's a good finisher so #6 is best for him. i'd like to see nasir higher up the order at #5, but he's probably thes best #7 BD has....sabbir is really the only other option i see for #7 because we don't need another pacer and he bowls spin and he can hit the ball from the get go or play a bit of a longer innings as he has the potential to be a specialist batsman. but is sabbir ready? if not we are better off at putting nasir at #7 and having riyad or mominul or even shuvagata at #5.

Here onwards is going to be interesting. I think the player that will bat at no. 5 will win the vote by a small margin.

You can't do one slot at a time poll. You need a pick 11 and compute the most popular pattern of choice.

Ya. People saw him name and just kept voting. You throw in his name in any random poll, people won't even bother to check question. But BP had to include his name on the poll, as he is a middle order batsman.

i think to select the middle order batsmen it really needs to be down as a middle order poll. the format should have been openers, #3, middle order bats, #7/allrounder, pacers, spinner. then once the team is picked do a wicket keeper poll because with the talent in BD atm there are currently 3 keepers in the squad but they get picked for their batting. as we can see anamul, and jahurul are already picked and no doubt rahim will get picked.

shakib isn't in the poll because he was already selected for a spot in the team, that's just how the votes went, not bengali's fault that's just how people voted.

Shakib is our best batsmen, 5 is too low for him. Anyway look at his stats at batting at no.4, its better than no.5

Yes, Shakib prefers to bat at 5 but here we are setting up the batting line up according to what we think would be the best for the the team. and the player.. and Shakib is our best batsman for #4.. we don't want him to come in a situation where he doesn't have much left to do rather than saving our face.. We want him to come in to stop a collapse and build an innings which he does at ease.. You want your best batsman to come as early as possible.. in Test he can come later as he bowls for sooo many overs.. But for ODI #4 is perfect for him..

This is the team that everyone voted for so far
1. Tamim Iqbal
2. Anamul Haque
3. Jahurul Islam
4. Shakib Al Hasan
5.
6.
7.
8. Mashrafe Mortaza
9. Abdur Razzak
10. Nazmul Hossain
11. Rubel Hossain
Shakib is our no. 4. He has good stats there and that should be his position. Everyone is well aware what the no. 4 batsmen is and who should be there. This isnt about being realistic. This is about putting the best team which we think will do well.
According to votes Shakib is voted the most (by a clear margin) to bat at no. 4. I think he would bat much better at no. 4 then no. 5.
This is a popularity vote. This is not a realistic vote.
The voting process isnt meant to be serious. Its meant to be about having fun and having a free choice of who you want to put at whatever position in the team. If you want Shakib to open the batting thats upto you. If you want Shafiul to bat at no. 3 thats upto you.
This is a BanglaCricket XI. Not a Bangladesh XI. Keep that in mind.

Ok people are voting for Nasir at #5 .. now who will come at #7 ??? Mushy will be selected for #6 I believe.. So #7 will be given to Riyad because Momin shouldn't be wasted at #7.. You need a batsman at #7 who has good techniques and who can score runs from the word go.. Nasir or someone like Nasir should be perfect for that position..

riyad doesn't suit the #7 spot, better off going with someone like sabbir who can accelerate from the get go but also play longer innings. #7 needs someone who can score quickly right form the start and hit boundaries at the end when needed, riyad hasn't been able to do that. nasir i think is probably the best for #7 right now as he's played a few matches now and has the ability needed to be in that role and be successful but he's got the potential to be a 4-6 batsman so keeping him at #7 doesn't seem right.
for me the only options for the #7 spot are nasir or sabbir. with mushy being the best suited for #6 this #5 spot is nasir's chance to be in the middle order otherwise he's at #7 (unless mushy gets picked for the #5 spot and nasir plays at #6).

Yup that's exactly what I said.. People voting Nasir for #5 means #7 will be given to Riyad which won't be a good choice.. People should have voted Riyad for #5 or Mominul if they want to leave out Riyad..
I want Nasir or someone like Nasir to come at #7..

i believe a lot of people know that riyad isn't suited to #7 so i think if he's not in the team by that stage that many will vote for someone other than riyad in the #7 poll.....names like ziaur, milon, babu have been thrown around at times for the #7 spot. shuvagata could probably even play at #7.
