I'm a long time Verizon subscriber and have been pretty happy with their services so far. However every time I upgrade my phone I end up throwing away my old Droids and Iphones. I'm about to preorder iphone 5 but caught in two minds whether to stick to verizon or switch to AT&T for their GSM offering. I feel switching to AT&T will make it easier to use the phone when I'm traveling overseas, particularly Europe and Bangladesh, and also easier to give away to someone who can use it afterwards. But I'm getting mixed reviews from AT&T customers about their services. Any feedback would be appreciated.

^ DO NOT. DO NOT SWITCH TO AT&T. It's a trap. And if you are getting iPhone 5, you can only make full use of it through Verizon. AT&T doesn't have LTE.

I'm just waiting for my damn contract to end, and I'm most likely to switch to Verizon. Although i will miss the hot chicks from my near by AT&T store, phones before beaches.

I had switched from Verizon to AT&T for that same reason - GSM

AT&T historically had overloaded network issues when they were the only iPhone game in town but they've since significantly improved their network. They still might have congestion issues in NYC and the Bay area but they've mitigated it somewhat with a network of wifi towers. I was recently in NYC with an AT&T SIM and did not experience any issues. YMMV depending on where you live. Look at dslreports.com to get a crowdsourced view of your area.

Thanks for the useful feedback. For my personal phone i decided to switch to AT&T. If i don't like it, in six months time when my other phone (office) is ready for an upgrade I'll stick with Verizon.

Get the nokia Lumia 920 (coming in November)...After looking at the flagship device for Apple (iphone 5), Samsung (S3), HTC (one X), Moto (Razr Maxx LTE)... I really think Nokia has to offer the most.

- Best camera optics
- Highest resolution (think its better than Retina display)
- Most sensitive touch screen
- Augmented reality
- Mobile assistant similar to Siri (made for Windows phone 8)
- Awesome Maps
- Stream and share music
- NFC compatible
- LTE
- Awesome build quality (altho I personally dont think any device can ever beat iphone in terms of build quality)

Thought this iphone will be released on sep 12. Instead we got another overpriced, longer version of over 2 years old iphone 4 with no new ground breaking technology. You fooled me once with 4s, shame on you. You fool me twice with iphone 5, shame on me. Not going to donate any money to you bad apple. Win8 and Nokia lumia 920 here i come.

:P

^^^ lol, Conan had one for iPad2 and 4S last year http://teamcoco.com/video/apple-siri-commercial

Jokes aside, iphone 5 is worth its hype. Screen size and 4G LTE are the most important enhancements I guess (and also the new A6 CPU).

I should be getting mine delivered on 21st.

It's a meh for me. Not going to upgrade and wait for 920 and then compare my top three -iPhone/SGIII/920.

There is nothing in the 5 that that is above and beyond what I have now in the 4 that fulfills an unmet need and use case of mine. 4G may have been compelling but I'm 99% on one WiFi or another so that's moot. The extra screen real-estate means nothing. Id I need, I have the new iPad for it. Faster processing speed? For what - so that an App loads 10% faster? Better camera? I don't use the iPhone for "professional"-style pictures. Got a real camera for that.

I'll keep my money with me.

^^^ I needed to get upgraded from my 3GS

I think if you have a 4s then you can easily pass this. Also windows 8 is going to be pretty cool as well both on mobile and tablet front. I might get a win8 tablet sometime next year as MS is planning to make one themselves.

Skipping couple of generations is always a smart idea. Upgrading every generation is money down the drain.

I'm upgrading from my 2.5 year old HTC EVO 4G to the iPhone 5. Just wanted to try Apple - will be the first Apple product I own. Should have it on the 21st!

I don't see much love for SGS-3. I have used quite a few android phone over the years and tried every iphone till 4s. I have to say S3 is by far the best phone I have used to date. Excellent battery life and sleek design. Also once you have tried android and its eco-system its hard to go back to IOS.

Apple really needs to update its design. It looks more or less the same for the last 3-4 years. The changes are too subtle.

Currently S3 is probably the best android out there. The only other android that can match it is probably HTC One X series but the one I tried had its diplay give out within one week of using it, got refund, and battery is not nearly as impressive as S3.

I find the SG to be too big - I want my phone to still resemble a phone...aside from that, it is as you say pretty damn good.

My thoughts exactly. Given that in terms of app usage, all deliver about the same, the only compelling reason to choose one over the other in my preference would be for the one with the best battery life.

so eyeing an SGIII when the price drops down next year - maybe. For now my HTC Desire does its job.

I strongly disagree with the bolded part. Apple need not re-invent the wheel. The one thing I love about the apple is its sleek look and no other manufacturer is yet to match that. The subtle changes is making it more amazing. I am totally against the pebble look that S3 got now.

Anyways If you dont want to get Apple, i would again recommend Nokia Lumia 920. Do your research, I am sure you will love what the phone has to offer compared to android or apple.

I would consider Lumia 920 if it came with android pre-installed. Windows phone 8 OS is bit of a cluster-frack for my taste.

Regarding iphone 5 design. I agree its still one of the best looking phone in the market. But after using the same design for 3-4 yrs it kinda loses its glamor.

The number one consideration for me for a phone is its battery time and s3 has the best battery time in the current generation of smartphones (you can buy a bigger battery with a custom back cover, which can give you almost 2 days worth of charge). Despite having powerful CPU and monster screen. It also gets full charge from under 10% in under 3 hours, which is also a first in my experience.

It took me some time to get used to the bigger screen sizes of some android phones. But trust me, it is the ideal size, if you use your phone for more than just making phone calls. It takes about 2-3 weeks to get used to the large screen size of s3 but once you get used to it, I doubt you will ever like the 4s size phones. The fact that iphone5 increased its screen size is a good indication of what consumers prefer. Galaxy Note on the other hand is definitely too big for a phone.

Had enough of the Iphone 4 . Time to change and Samsung S3 sounds a good option . Good luck Apple selling those remote controls.

Is it true that Nokia Lumia will have wireless charging? You can put the phone anywhere and it will just automatically charge itself.

Not anywhere - there is a "power pad" that comes with the phone that you have to plug into the outlet, and place your phone on it to charge. It's not much convenient than traditional charging, in my opinion.

Yeah that's what it looks like. Duracell made one too that can support other smartphones including the iPhone.

Thought this would be relevant here: some of the things you can do with android phone but not with iphone:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comm...id_experience/

for me, having a "universal back button", "internet tethering" and "plug n play" storage are three of the most why-the-frack-this-is-not-on-iphone feature when I switched.

For me ... These windows based OS s have taken so much of my time in the form of Virus guards, checking files for virus etc etc disruptions... That my one year experience with MAC OS has made me almost forget about the word VIRUS.. Forever..as such the time is saved...I need nothing else to be happy with MAC...
