Ian, please disregard these comments. We all hope you continue giving your insights and opinions on Bangladeshi cricket. We greatly appreciate it. We are also pleased to see a non Bangladeshi show so much of interest, and enthusiasm with regards to Bangladeshi cricket. If only our authorities had your level of passion our cricket would have gone ahead a long way. Nevertheless look forward to your posts, and contribution to our cricket via BPL, coaching clinics etc.

Btw it doesnt take an expert to say our bowling was much better when you were our bowling coach. Its been deteriorating since then with Asia Cup the only exception.

I can't even compare present bowling standards to any other era. Its like our pacers have forgotten the basics of pace bowling. Even Mohammed Sharif, Monjurul Islam, Syed Rasel had more brains than this Abul, Shafiul.

Pace bowling is a treat to watch. That's why I make sure I watch SA's opening spell just for Steyn and Morkel. Recently, Siddle/Cummins/Hilfenhaus bowled with same intensity in the tests against India. Even AFG guys like Zadran brothers bowled with lot of hearts.

I am very disappointed with our pace unit. I am no expert to identify what's wrong or even compare Ian and SJ. But its very obvious that we have reached a low in our pace bowling history.

It seems to be a relatively good era for fast bowling isnt it? Australia has three superb young quicks. South Africa has 2 world class fast bowlers. India has unearthed 2 genuine quicks. England also has some sharp bowlers. Time for Windies and Pak to step up.

Agree with Aus and SA. But who are the 2 genuine quicks for Ind?

WI and especially Pak will never have shortage of quality fast bowlers. Pak's bench bowling strength is much better than India's main bowlers. They had to sit out Junaid Khan, Aizaz Cheema, Wahab Riaz, Mohammed Sami, Mohammed Talha and let's not forget about Asif/Amir. All of them are better than India's main bowler with the exception of Zaheer Khan.

WI has Kemar Roach, Fidel Edwards. They are genuine quicks and bowls 140+. Rampaul is fast as well.

For some reason everyone always forget about NZ. They don't have any big names in their fast bowling line up, but their fast bowlers are good enough to get the job done. Southee, Mills, Bracewell, Gillespie form a pretty good line up. They also have a 19 year old fast bowler coming up, he name is Adam or Andrew Milne I think. I hear he is pretty fast.

Even Zim has Jarvis, Vitori, Mpofu. These guys are also good enough to get the job done.

We are the only test team that has no class or talent in pace department. What are you doing SJ?

Southees very impressive. Tall, good action, good pace, and very intelligent. You are right mufi_02. They wont have a shortage. But not sure if the same quality is there. Asif and Aamir are immensely talented. Cant put the others in the same bracket. Indian genuine quicks-Aaron and Yadav. Dont know whether they can sustain their pace, but these 2 are probably the quickest that they have produced. Now dont get me wrong i am not saying they can be compared with Pattinson etc. But its impressive India is producing pacers capable of bowling close to 150 kph. And its not a one day on a fast wicket thing. They did it consistently in IPL

On the same story, a big challenge of one of our former national team football coach Diego Cruciani was preventing his players from eating paratha and bhaji every morning!

The biggest problem for our pacers are that they can't control themselves. If they can't control themselves, then why are we expecting them to control a cricket ball? This is where a bowling coaches main skill comes in. Bowlers all around the world can have, has and will have mental problems, but coaches are the ones that's suppose to fix these problems. Somehow, Ian Pont was able to get in the heads of not just our pacers but all our players and he filled in a hole in their brains. Unfortunately, Shane Jurgensen, isn't able to do that! Don't actually know why but if releasing him is a postive light in the team, then why wait? Let's get Ian or someone Ian refers in a flash! YES, I'm a very big Ian Pont fan. So let's hope for the best and looking at our recent performances, us fans can only hope, pray and keep our patience for a Miracle in our pace department and the team.

The main problem with many of the fielders I categorized as poor is that they are simply too slow. It's interesting that people like Yuvraj and Tamim are surprisingly nimble fielders and good catchers despite packing extra pounds.

U miss ziaur rahman, i think he is the worst in bd

I think as our pace bowling is getting back to some shape after couple of horrendous years, TheJurgs at least deserves a mention.

Yes , he does. Not often you see a BD victory with pacers taking 8 wkts out of 10, and that too after a solid outing by pacers in the second test.

Shane Jurgensens effect is not a fluke or one off. Now third consecutive series Bangladesh has performed well. Sth is clicking.

I'm beginning to get his chillaxed style of coaching. It seeks to challenge and alter our slacker culture by encouraging players to work hard on their own. Those who do, like Shiblu and Zia, will do well for their country and themselves. Those who don't will stagnate with fluctuating performances. This system centered around personal responsibility rather than babysitting, can make our best players into even better players.

This is my first post in this thread.
I was confused about the performance of Shane as a head coach as our pace department was not clicking. But as days are passing team performing well, pace department is also getting good shape. I should praise Shane for that.

We tend to be very short sighted and blinkered. We only live in the now. Right after the first Test, everyone here was up in arms getting ready to lynch Shane. They calmed down after Test 2. Now after ODI 1, he is the best coach we have ever had. Now, if ODI 2 does not go the way we want, he will be the villain again.

Why not do a retrospective of his stint so far since taking charge?

It's hard to get a good grasp on SJ's coaching ability due to the success he has got during his tenure (Asia Cup, ODI series win vs WI, ODI series draw vs SL). But as a bowling coach i have see no improvement in our pacers. Rubel was meant to be our frontline bowler and now he is probably our 6th best pacer.

If someone doesn't believe me then lets put it this way in terms of our best pacers
1. Robiul Islam
2. Mashrafe Mortaza
3. Ziaur Rahman
4. Shafiul Islam
5. Nazmul Hossain
6. Rubel Hossain
7. Sajidul Islam
8. Abul Hasan
...
1000. Shahadat Hossain

It is actually quite weird that, we have had more success under Mushfiq and SJ than anyone else.

However, its better not to put it that way. The team has been successful soley due to change in the chemistry of the team. 10 years back, someone averaging below 20 could play on and on. These days, even a 30+ average does not gurantee you a side in the team. The positive side effect is that players have to work even harder to get a chance in the side.

If the trend continues, we will soon be labelled as "World Beaters" in a few years time. Lets just hope that we can keep up the consistency. 7 ODI wins the last 12 matches which is a percentage of about 65%.

it'll take sahadat one 5 fer against namibia to go from number 1000 to number 1, we are that naive

Ofc. He has bowled well in every opportunity that he got. I dont think we have Steyn and Philander at our disposal so it's very easy for any bowler to catapult his name to best pacer in the country. It only took Robiul two test matches to do that. lol.
