Default Is Zia technically the worst batsman we have ever produced?

If not, who is it? You can't name a full time bowler.

Zia will score first double ton for BD. Let him always open for us

He is better than Kohli and Rohit combined. Just show some patience and enjoy :P

no i agree. yes zia'a contribution today was vital to the start we had, but when tamim is fit theres no space for zia. plus when shakib comes back the middle order looks increasingly packed, we still have to make a difficult decision between naeem / riyad (or both and play riyad at #8)....

no place for zia, especially if mushy not gona utilise his medium pace drifters...

oh and another thing. zia by trade was actually a bowler who can bat. but injuries caused him to lose his pace...he was then considered as a batting all rounder.

but he was never a 'proper' batsman, which i suppose explains his technical flaws with the willow in his hand

Zia was a fast bowler who got injured and re-discovered himself as hard hitting batsmen. Though everyone knew he could hit a ball out of the park but it was Khaled Mahmud Shujon who gave him the opportunity to bat up the order while he was managing/coaching OldDOHS (currently known as Prime bank).

I'm done enjoying the victory. It's a serious question. I wanted to know. I assume you voted no. So who is to you the worst technical batsmen we have produced, if not Zia? I already said you can't mention a full time bowler. Batsmen and all rounders only.

Dude for godssakes, Zia is NOT a batsman. He's a bowler turned bowler & slogger. That's like calling Mashrafe a "batsman".

Personally I would say Shariar Nafees, maybe. His century in tests vs Oz was just

The fact is ZIa is not an ODI opener. The fact that Rubel opens for Bagerhat doesnt mean he can open in ODIs, and the same for ZIa who opens for oldDOHS. I still have huge doubt whether he can be a permanent part of any of the 3 formats. He may be tried as a floating middle order batsman and part time bowler in 20-20s for now.

All that is not my concern. I'm just interested in things from a historical point of view. I can discuss Bd players for days and nights. I know his contribution was valuable, but that being said I think we never have seen such a labelled batsmen/all rounder with such lack of technique. Wanted to know if others felt the same.

He was sent up the order as a pinch hitter end of question. Yes he is the worst technically but today he did his job and gave us a good start. The moment sham and zia started hitting it gave everyone believe that Bangladesh were going to chase him down

But I'm getting word that he has rediscovered himself as a batsman? Hey, once you get the all rounder tag, you need to put him in the pool of batsman and all rounders. Yeah, Mash has become some sort of an all rounder, and I think Mash's technique is a bit better than Zia's.

So my question remains to all those who voted no, and didn't give their answer. I was thinking perhaps one of those openers who played less than 2 or 3 matches and were terrible?

Nope i didn't vote because the thread title itself is a cheap-shot at one of our own players which i don't support. If you had the intention of finding out batsman with the worst technique then you could have simply asked that question without mentioning Zia.

you know his technique isn't the big issue, it's his temperament, from what i saw he can block a ball, ok not the best technique but still ok, but you don't often get to see his technique because most of the timing he's just flinging his bat as hard as he can towards the ball. would be interesting to see what he looked like if he was told to hang around and play more of an anchor role.

To Shane Jurgensen, please, for God's sake, don't ever take him as an opening batsman! It's our sheer luck that we won yeaterday! We could've paid a big price for that!

I just realized something:

Zia was brought in as a nightwatchman.

Brilliant, Shane. Brilliant.
