IMHO, the decision is fair. When diving forward, it is possible to lose sight of the ball and not be sure whether it carried or not. The umpire was the one who made the mistake.

A precedent was when Michael Slater caught Dravid at midwicket at Bombay in the 2001 series. Third umpire rightly denied the catch. But even after that, Slater was absolutely sure that it carried, protested with the umpire and was fined for it.

I think it is not right to compare Jones and Latif. A video of the Latif incident is present in the multimedia section (in the short clip about BD's test history). That was genuine cheating. While getting up from the ground, Latif dropped the ball on the ground, then picked it up and appealed. He knew that it was not a catch.

His eyes are focused direcly on the ball as it hits the ground, and he has an unobstructed view. Let there be no doubt: "Geriant Jones is a cheat."

My friends and I have discussed this ad nauseum...

in the end we all agreed to boo and put the mockers on jones everytime he walks onto the pitch....to either wicky or bat....no matter what team he plays against...

it worked last night!!!!!

that was a very good decision. players like jones, rashid latif is a kolongko in cricket.
