double-sided bat to debut
source from Cricinfo:
Double-sided bat to debut
Most reverse-sweeps still come off the front of the bat - Andrew Symonds' version of the stroke being an exception - but batsmen could soon have the option of using the back of their blade. A double-sided bat will be trialled during two Australian domestic Twenty20 games this week.
David Warner, the New South Wales batsman who has just signed up for the IPL, will use the bat against South Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday and Victoria's Aiden Blizzard will test it against Western Australia at the MCG on Thursday. Warner had a hit with the new-style bat in the SCG nets on Sunday and he said he didn't think it would significantly change the game.
"Generally when I'm playing the reverse I'm swapping hands, and now I don't really have to so it's going to be better. It gives you a couple of extra seconds," Warner told the Age. "If people think it's going to be an advantage to batsmen, I have to disagree.
"The person who is using the timber is in control, so I just see it as another shot for other people to try as well. Everyone is trying it these days, especially in Twenty20, so why not have the back of the bat flat as well? It makes it easier, but it's not a real advantage. You've still got to play the shot."
It seems Cricket turning into baseball game… Do you think using the double sided bat can help our players perform better? Any thoughts would be appreciated

Can someone with the technical knowledge explain - the double sided bat will not have as much "meat" as the normal bat (the thick area are behind the blade). Won't this reduce the power of normal cricketing shots ?

ah david warner.
my friends friend.
watch out for him on the international stage.
i don't have much to say about the double sided bat. i don't think it'll change much.
and to Tintin; the bats meat doesn't change much at all. it's only the middle of the bat, on the back , that is flat.

If it takes weight off the bat it should Increase Bat Head speed. Which would compensate for the loss off mass.
If bet the Bat Rafique gave Ash was a lighter one than current RBK bat. That Bat Ash got from Rafique was the one where he scored 100, 94, 58 it broke shortly after the Natwest Series. Ash has gotten stonger now so he can hook and pull with new Bat but if sticks with the lighter bat he can much more. You don't hook, and Cut guys like McGrath, Lee and Flintoff the way he did.
He has a hard time middling the short stuff now at times. Those extra ounces make the differences. Sachin is so Built that how he uses that heavy bat but I know it's the main reason for his elbow issues

This will probably reduce the weight of the bat, change the center of gravity for proper shots. Big hits might be difficult with it. It could be more useful in low slow pitches where one can rely on nudges on either side to score runs.
Good to see new things being tried.

I guess now it will definitely be a paddle that most Americans like to call a cricket bat. I think it's pretty stupid, if that's the case why not make a bat with four sides?
And I don't think it will cause none of the issues that you guys mentioned above. I'm sure the bat manufacturers in Australia took everything into consideration prior to making one.......but then again it's a stupid R&D.

Nothing will be done to give an advantage to bowlers, I assure you that. All the recent changes of the last decade has been done to benefit the batsmen, with the ODI's being the most lopsided in favor of batsmen. 20/20 adds to that woe even further.

The ambidextrous south african guy - Kevin Petersen
The double sided bat
These ideas go hand in hand. I like it. Only, if only the idea had came from India or Pakistan. It would be called "madness" for sure....

Double sided bat?
Go tell that to Ashraful.
He would start mastering the reverse sweep.
Just another way for him to get out, atleast, this time he wont be blaming the bat.
