1st test victory for BD (RSC post)
Following interesting post was made by one Emran Yousuf in RSC last week.
I'm just wondering assuming Bangladesh don't lose their test status or something like that, who are going to the team that hand them their 1st test victory? (lets not get ahead of ourselves and talk about series victories yet) Anyway here is a small analysis (in the order of most likely)*
=1. Pakistan
Most of the test match is the series they played this year was preety close, and Pakistan did hand Zimbabwe their 1st victory. (and Bangladesh could easily win in similiar circumstances.) I belive that Pakistan are the only test side to lose an ODI to Bangladesh.
=1. Zimbabwe
This current Zimbabwe team seem to have the wood on Bangladesh, but anyting can happen to this team because of the political situation in Zimbabwe. Hypothetically if 80% of their White players left the team Bangladesh would prolly face a team of even strenght with them.
=3. West Indies
If the Windies team lose a few of their 1st choice bowlers it's possible, but their batting should be too good for Bangladesh to get 22 wickets required. Also Windies were the 1st side to lose to New Zeland in a test match. So if nothing else they have the pedigree
=3 England
Maybe if the ECB schedualed Bangladesh at the end of a long Subcontinent wide tour involving all four test nations. (and Nepal) Also having a few bowling injuries could help.
=5. India
Would have been higher in the list if only because Bangladesh did well against them in their 1st ever test match, and well for while India had an unlucky habit of self destructing in what should be routine victories. But they're definitely a much better team now and their spin bowling line up should own Bangladesh forever.
=5. New Zealand
Despite being a good test side, they can still self destruct and bowling injuries are almost routine, and the New Zealnd batting order can collapse . But reality is even without their 1st or even 2nd string bowling line up they should be too good to lose even defending a sub 150 run total.
=7. Sri Lanka
Not while Murali is still playing for them and their is no way in hell Sri Lanka's batting is going to collapse in Bangladesh to
any great degree.
=8. South Africa /Australia
Not a chance ever. It would be the greatest upset in the history of of sports. Even less likely than the Red Sox winning a World Series., with Wolves winning the Premiership, and Wales winning the Rugby and Football World Cup 3 years in row; all happening at the same time.
cheers

* These thoughts were made assuming Kenya or another country will not be granted Test status before Bangladesh manages to win a Test match
Reply from The Wog:
Easy - Kenya. (With a covering bet on Namibia, depending which order BAN tours them)

You are John Bracewell and I claim my $NZ 5.

What, you consider that a long-shot?
OK, BAN played a LOT better in AUS than I expected. There will probably be a couple of days some time when BAN plays really, really well, the other side plays really, really badly and BAN win a really, really good toss. IIRC they have been close enough twice to get the hopes of pro-BAN readers up.
The other possibility is that they have so many young kids with FC and even international experience in their teens, playing against touring sides, that they might have a useful side in 10 years. Certainly the U19s are competitive, and so they should be.
