nah jahurul imo is clearly the best out of the current lot that have been tested. nafees and junaid might have got tons but junaid did his best work at #3, plus he always looks shakey and out of sorts. nafees might time the ball well when he connects but has a lot of head and technical issues to work on. nazim doesn't have the technique either.
jahurul has been pretty consistent as opener/#3 batsman in domestics for a good number of years, he has solid technique as well, he also has hung around and got the team off to solid starts almost all the time in tests. certainly if nafees, imrul and junaid can get a boat load of chances then so can jahurul.

I think Imrul rules the roost.

Jahurul has a bit more patience that the other guys, but he cant convert. It will be always 20's and 30's. He ll work hard to get there, but will somehow find a way to throw it away.
Technique ok, temperament huge issue

Since Jan 1, 2011...JaRule averages 38.50 with a top score of 48. Consistency without being "good". Read into that whatever you will, but for me that means he's better than Imrul, Nazimuddin, Junaid, and SN. Same time period Tamim averages 32.50. If Tamim regains his form, then JaRule at least gives some stability.

imrul only got 1 half century and no century in 16 tests, 32 innings at an average of 17.15, so he's just a complete no until he pulls some ridiculous domestic numbers imo. junaid and SN both have 1 century and 7 half centuries junad did it in 19 matches (37 innings) while SN did it in 24 matches (48 innings), both average 26. nazimuddin only played 3 matches but has poor technique, isn't an opener and has failed miserably in both other formats in international cricket.
before dumping jahurul i'd give him probably 15-20 tests, he might not have converted yet but still has a higher average. it would be interesting to compare jahurul's innings and when he got out (balls, score, minutes) to junaid, SN, imrul etc. from my memory he gets us off to a better start more often than those guys. he has double the amount of tons in FC cricket than SN in less than double the amount of matches, more than double junaid, and same with imrul, again he has played more matches but it's less than double. nazimuddin has 1 more ton in 1 less match but we've all seen his technique and what he's achieved in the shorter formats internationally as well as knowing he doesn't open.

Things I like in Jahurul
*Hardworking
*puts effort into his batting and fielding
*concentrates enough to earn him some sort of consistency in the 30s
Things I don't like in Jahurul
*Very steaky batsman, sometimes very impatient. SERIOUS issues with temperament. Does not look settled or comfortable at the crease most of the time. Shows lack of understanding of the game situation at times.
*can't continue after 30 or 40 runs. expectations too low. Performs shezda after scoring 50.
*he lost a lot of my respect in one of the BPL games where he dropped the catch yet claimed for it being the wicket keeper.
no denying he is the better opening partner of all that has been tried alongside tamim in recent years.

it's not like he has horrible technique and has made no runs, he's got solid technique and has made some decent runs even if he hasn't played any significant innings (in terms of runs made, the fact that he takes the shine off and stays around for awhile is somewhat significant). he's at least equal if not better on the domestic circuit as all others other than maybe anamul, who's really a #3 and in his short test career has looked out of sorts.

Jahi's technique is solid but a bit erratic. This is cos his bottom hand dominates the bat. He times the ball nicely at times and seems confident in the middle. I think he is worth giving more chances to.

Take a look at this scorecard. He was always going to bat ahead of Junaid Siddique. Look at Mashrafe the batsmen!! 60 runs of 17 balls!?!?!

I predict Jahurul will score between 20-49 before getting out

Anamul should take the starting opening spot once he comes back. Jahurul will most likely be in the squad for the NZ series but as a backup.

I have sympathy for people who get out before getting set. In test cricket getting out in the 20s and 30s is like a criminal offence. Dont want to see him play tests while ryad sits out. I would push Ash to the top and slot ryad in somewhere in the line up

jahurul should get another two series ........ he has a good average comparing to others although he is not getting those big runs..
if jahurul cant prove his justification in the next two series, perhaps it will be time to reconsider a new one.
now who do we have, surely imrul is not test material. and i fell junaid >> nafees. and then from the new ones we have anamul. at home conditions naeem may be an option for opening, but not overseas condition.
