^ Yah, looking at that Ye Shiwen is defo on steroids!
Jokes aside, US comments and reactions are very disturbing and sexist. You can't just randomly accuse someone like that. Where is Murali!

So, even if we invest heavily in purely endurance sports such as walking, sailing, sculling and cycling -- things our people do every day -- the general lack of natural athleticism will be a mitigating challenge to overcome with considerable patience and difficulty.

I know you're a patriot Sohel bhai but it almost seems that you're insinuating that Bangladeshis suffer from genetic deficiencies! Even if what you and F6 bhai say is true and that we are not 'naturally athletic', we still have an extreme capacity to work/labor (as F6 correctly pointed out). That can often mitigate for a certain dearth in natural talent, can't it?
Btw, that video is very unpleasant but we would be deluding ourselves if we thought that all Bengali parents treated their children well.

By the world "natural" I'm insinuating something behavioral within our normative culture, not genetic. That would be an absurd construct talking about 160 million people from diverse genetic backgrounds. Besides, predispositions and propensities for certain types of behavior can always be either harnessed or overcome with effort. Genetic ethnology is just that IMO, but cultural ethnology can be discussed somewhat more seriously in light of its normative expressions.
I acknowledge that there must be exceptions to my highly subjective observation. But maintain that generally speaking, "laboring hard and long" which our people do every day, and being "athletic" and competitive on the global stage even in endurance sports are two different things. Athletic temperament necessary for that level is also a major mitigating factor. I think it would be difficult to overcome those norms even if, and that's a VERY BIG IF, we manage to put a Chinese style draconian plan together to improve our literally abysmal athletic performances in the international arena.
We're just into taking other things as seriously as many nations take their sports at the highest level, and I think that's OK. But we still have the sports I mentioned. I'd like to see us excel in those at the highest level.
We have many people involved in varying degrees of domestic violence and child abuse here in Bangladesh, and many more who find that kind of evil acceptable. But watching others abusing our kids is increasingly far less accepted and that's what I was getting at

Eboelkassem becomes the first African to win a medal in Fencing
And this Indian Badminton pairing of Gutta & Ponnappa is really good! They have a shot at a medal I reckon

badminton players charged with playing against the spirit of the games - 4 teams went out to try to throw the matches, in order to gain a favorable draw.
They should be expelled, but it won't happen.

8 badminton players thrown out of Olympics for trying to lose
Eight female badminton players were thrown out of the Olympics on Wednesday for trying to lose matches the day before, the Badminton World Federation announced after a disciplinary hearing. The players from China, South Korea and Indonesia were accused of playing to lose in order to face easier opponents in future matches. The Indonesian and South Korean pairs appealed the decision, the BWF said, and a decision on their appeals is expected later on Wednesday.

I'm not really a badminton fan but love watching Saina Nehwal play. She's talented, smart, intense and extremely graceful on the court. I hope she medals. Chinese and Indonesian players stand in her way.
Don't like Jwala Gutta, the fat and chunky doubles player but appreciate her unorthodox shots. As kinda-hot as her partner is, I'd like to see her lose.

No cycling fans here? Brad "Wiggo" Wiggins is having the run of his life! There's already much talk that he might be the next knighted sportsperson!

Zing!
The only discipline we have any hope of even qualifying for in the near future is shooting. Even that will take a much improved coaching and support structure.
