Listen man. Hit on every hot chick you get chance to meet. Every rejection should be a learning experience and consider the hitting on a "test drive". One thing I have learned is that you lament after the hot chick passes by as you said nothing. As Nate Dogg so eloquently put: " Don't let that fine girl pass you bye".

Of course, problem with thee above approach is women will think you are a player if you are too forward and certainly turn you down: It's NOT true that all woman like bad boys, some DO like shy smart types.

But bottom line: STILL hit on every hot chick that pass by. At least you won't die wondering late at night, if she would have said yes.
