Default Helmot named BCB's High Performance Programme coach

Simon Helmot has been appointed head coach of Bangladesh's High Performance Programme, which will run from August to October 2016. Helmot arrived in Dhaka on Saturday to finalise the deal, and will begin work at the end of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, when there is a new intake for the programme.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said that Helmot is being contracted on the basis of number of days.

"According to his performance, we will think of his long-term responsibility," Chowdhury said. "We have a plan with him, but for now it is based on the number of days he can be available. The HP programme will begin after the Dhaka Premier League, and the squad will be announced beforehand."

Helmot currently coaches the CPL side Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel, and also serves as assistant coach with the IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad and the BBL team Hobart Hurricanes. He has previously worked as an assistant coach of Australia's 2010 World Twenty20 side has also been head coach of Australia A.

Helmot succeeds former England batsman Mal Loye, who was HP head coach from June to September last year. He ended his stint with satisfaction and had hoped to return to the same job this year.

"The most important thing as a coach is being a servant to the players — not a slave. You've got to be very careful there's no grey area there," Helmot said. "You're there to facilitate training, give advice in technical areas, but also you're there to be a confidant, a psychologist — you're a whole range of things which will hopefully enable players to get the best out of themselves. And that's the art of coaching. The art of coaching is for a player to become nearly self-sufficient."

Any reason why the previous one got replaced? It seemed like he knew what he was doing, and was content with the job, even eager to come back. Doesn't feel right to be changing coaches like that so quickly, especially when it seemed like one had plans and goals set in place.

Its a great move. Well done BCB.

So much better than Atapattu. Experience wise Helmot will probably be the most experienced HP coach we ve ever appointed. And being involved with all the T20 teams and including deputy to Tom Moody would mean his knowledge will be very current.

@NoName. Imo BCB needs to restrategize HP. Because they run it only for a month or so, and then it shuts down until someone randomly resumes again with a new coach.

McIness was a permanent member working full time, after than Paul Terry/Mal Lowe joined, and coach for a short stint, and now Helmot. The longer these coaches can work, the more impact we ll get

Banglacricteam reports Hemot might not come citing security reasons, although every other daily published yesterday that HP training set to resume Sunday. I guess we ll find out tomorrow.

Will be a big blow if he decides to back out. Trainer is already here
