Default Gentlemen, we have an ODI oppener

With even a complete match is left and the match against the Lankan yet to be played out, the search for an oppener is over. Our venture for the Asia Cup has been a success. Ashraful may not score fifties in every match, he even may not be in form from time to time, but he proved once and for all to have what it takes to become a class oppener in the limited version of the game.

While parade of failures marched through the Lankan field, he stands tall above everybody, categorically denying the most vicious attack of the tournament. This is what the tigers are all about. The bite has been brewing. Watch out big guns, take notes of what's been happening with the tigers, it is just a matter of time you'll be noticing the stint of bites all over you more often.

for the next 25 match bangladesh play, the opening should be (considering none injured)

Ash-jo
rana 1 down.

as long as jo is not available ash-rana.

I don't know about Rana being the one down. We always need someone down the line to stop should there any bleeding. Rana did just that quite a few times.

Thats right, we dont just have a odi opener, we have a odi opening combination - finally. I don't however think that we should catergorically say it should last 25 matches, but it would be nice if it does.

When Rajin and Alok hit form again we might just have a capable lineup.

as soon as bashar is out, we are in pressure. this needed to be stopped, and him going early is not a good idea for this reason.

you guys are so quick to conclusions!! I bet if Ashraful or Golla hits a bad patch in upcoming matches - you'll be shouting to kick them out or change order..

Still can't believe that there are people who were serious about Bashar opening. If Whatmore was entertaining that idea I, i am disappointed.

Ashraful and Javed Omar will have to be tried out for a few more matches. So far this is the best we have got, so we need to play them for at least 10-15 matches straight. Now if only Javed was fit....

we got one problem.. JO age probably destroying his fitness...
coz ODI's r fast cricket... JO tends to get more n more injured...

he will do good for next few monthes... but meanwhile we shud be looking for another younger dependable opener for the ODI's..

loll, I totally agree with you "say". This seems to be the trend. Although I cant blame them, I too think that Ash and JO are the right men for the job (knock on wood). Agent smith also has a point, the loss of bashar always brings pressure upon the younger players so I suggest pushing him down to number 4 or 5.

I guess that wouldnt be a bad idea but younger players should always be handled with care because even one bad match can totally ruin their temperament and eventually their career. Dhiman Ghosh is a bright prospect as a middle order batsman too.

Although Hannan is out of form now, he came of age on the Aussie tour, his odi average rose a full 10 runs in the following series. He has a good technique and is dependable, he will prolly be the one to follow Javed. Of course there are the U-19 players also doing well.

just 2 good matches for ashraful and he is an odi opener.

even alok has a few good matches against windies in 2002, but now he is struggling to get into the team.

even rajin had a few good matches against pak in 2003, he is out of form.

even hannan has a few good matches against aus in 2003, he is not even in the team.

plz wait for 10-15 matches before jumping into conclusions.

however, jo and ash could work as an opening pair with rana at 3.

if jo injured, ash and rana as opening pair.

Too early to say anything about Javed and Ash as an opener.
We should look a little more, as most of all says on this forum.
Because in every batting position or in every batsman(top and middle),
we have a huge problem of consistency.
Like Amit says about Alok, Rajin and Hannan, all are fact.
We need to find the consistency by any mean,
if we need to bring some new faces, we should try that too,
before we go for a conclusion.

True...
For a few days.. something is bothering me a lot about the very flactuating performance of the BD cricketers. And that is... probably the team is playing way too much cricket without proper improvement sessions in between the tours/tournaments!
This is, probably to a great extent, affecting the performance of the team/players.

Every potential player we pick from the Domestic/Junior teams loses his sharpness within a few series and starts to look blunt!... probably its time to be more careful in picking up younger players and throughing them into the frypan of Int. Cricket!

yes..every player goes through bad patches. even ash was in a horrible form just a year ago. but that shouldn't keep us from seeing how much of technically sound batsman he is, which is a necessity for openers. judging from current form, JO is the perfect partner for him, but on the long run i like hannan more for this position. he's also got a good technique. hopefully he'll regain his form soon.

nafis will probably have to wait at least another couple of years...when JO and biddut will retire. and this'll give him more time to grow. dhiman is growing into our next dependable wicket-keeper batsman. cheers guys!! we got a good backup for pilot.

Well dhiman might replace pilot the batter but how about pilot the keeper? Is he that good...

Pilot's keeping is one of the best in the world I tell you!!
