World Cricket League 2006-07

[Miraz]

ICC world cricket league is starting from 29 January and the final will be held on 7 February 2007 at Nairobi, Kenya. After return of Ravindu Shah, Kenya looks a different team and most likely to become champion in this six nation tournament.
The teams involved are Kenya, Scotland, Ireland, Netherlands, Bermuda and Canada. Top two teams will qualify for the 20/20 world cup to be held in Sepetember 2007 at South Africa.

The tournament is getting started tomorrow. In two practice matches Bermuda registered a 55 run win against Uganda. Bermuda won the toss and batted, making 247 all out in 44.1 overs. In reply Uganda was bundled out for 192 despite a brilliant innings from Hamza Almuzahim (86*).

In the other match, Scotland beat Tanzania by 79 runs. Scotland were all out for 214 but hit back to dismiss Tanzania for 135 in seaming conditions.

From My Perception and Little Knowledge about These Teams, I think Kenya and Scotland will be Selected for 20/20 WC.

Kenya is back in its best just ahead of world cup.

In the opening match of the World Cricket League, they outplayed Bermuda by 10 wiickets with 31.5 overs to spare!!

After winning toss, Keya opted to field first and restricted Bermuda to a paltry 133 with opener DA Minors scoring 52.

In reply, Kenya reached the target in just 18.1 overs without losing any wicket. Ouma scored 56 in 51 balls while Obuya was destructive and scored 76 in just 57 balls.

Perfect start for Kenya.

Scotland pulled off a remarkable last-ball win over Ireland at Nairobi Gymkhana after seeming to be down and out when they slid to 144 for 6 chasing a target of 281. A brutal 102 from Neil McCallum took them within sight of victory and a half-century from a limping Colin Smith saw them over the line.

Canada disappointed with both bat and ball as they went down an eight-wicket defeat to Netherlands at Ruaraka.
Canada won the toss and batted, but thereafter little went right for them as they lost too many early wickets, including the crucial one of John Davison for 16, as they slid to 71 for 4. Ashish Bagai (74) and Ashif Mulla (37) added 74 for the fifth wicket, and then Bagai and Sunil Dhaniram (29) 55 for the sixth. But from 197 for 5, the Canadians lost their last five wickets for three runs to end with six overs of their innings unused.
They needed early wickets to have any chance to defend a below-par total, but Bas Zuiderent (77*) and Darron Reekers (39) got Netherlands off to a good start with a stand of 59, and when Reekers fell, Luuk van Troost (38) upped the tempo. Zuiderent, playing the sheet anchor role, and Ryan ten Doeschate (37*) guided the Dutch home with more than 15 overs to spare.

Today, Kenya won a real thriller.

Chasing a target of 284/5 set by Ireland, Kenya was at point 207/5 in 40 overs. Finally they managed pull off the win with 1 wicket left and one over to spare.

In todays match, two centurion Porterfield (106) and O'Brien (143) ended up in the losing side.

I checked the scorecard and it looks like there were really exciting matches today and some cricketers were really brilliant (Odoyo and Porterfield...). Shame that they cannot play Test cricket!

Varaiya looks to be a really good bowler for Kenya. 22 wickets @ 15.77 in ODI's, and 8 @ 8.87 in First Class matches! Only 22 years old as well, so has a lot of cricket ahead of him.

Good prospect for Kenya, will be interesting to see how he plays against the better teams at the World Cup.

I gotta say! This is one of the best series' lately ....Id say it is the best in the last couple of years. Sure, there were some close ones (eg. England VS Australia), but the fact that six different teams can play such close matches deserves some praise.

Bermuda end on a high... now Scotland have worse NRR than Kenya, so if the final will be not played for bad weather the trophy will go to Kenya. Nice tournament btw, as many matches were really disputed to the end.

Kenya took a firm hold on the WCL final at Nairobi Gymkhana. They bowled Scotland out for 155 in 47 overs after Scottish captain Craig Wright won the toss and elected to bat.

As expected, Kenya lifts the title of the tournament. Lameck Onyango took 3 wickets to restrict Scots to a modest 155. david Obuya continued his blazing form and scored 93. Kenya went past the Scots total in 37.5 overs.

Had this been anywhere near Scotland the result of this game and many other games would have been different. I wouldn't even be surprized if they weren't the finalist also then. All I can say home cooking is always good.
