This is what Dipak Patel said:

Dipak Patel, the New Zealand U-19 coach, admitted his side is struggling to cope with playing spin in subcontinent conditions after he watched them slip to a three-wicket defeat against Bangladesh in their opening match at Colombo on Sunday.

"We are struggling on the slower wickets as our players are used to the ball coming on [to the bat] a bit more," he said. "We are learning a lesson of how to play in these conditions and we have got better and better in every match but it is a short tournament and we have got to put our thinking caps on to come up with some answers."

Tigercricket.com adds: "Mehrab was brilliant. He held the innings together after we lost Shamsur and Raqibul, two set batsmen, in the space of two overs. He took no unnecessary risks and played on singles and twos," said Bangladesh team's assistant coach Nazmul Abedin Fahim over phone from Colombo.


Fahim also informed that the wicket at the P Sara had remained under cover throughout Saturday and the night before because of rain.


"It had a lot of moisture and grass and there was good bounce and seam movement. It was more like New Zealand conditions and their opening bowlers Bennett and Southee really bowled well. We lost the first three wickets to them but it would not have been a surprise if they had taken more wickets in their opening spell," added Fahim.

My question:

Whis one is a true statement?

I am not sure if Dipak Patel was looking for an excuse just because NZ lost or whether this Fahim guy of tigercricket.com was looking for excuse since BD were 5 for 2.

Pretty biased in there opinion......eh?

The "this Fahim guy of tigercricket.com" you were refering to is actually Nazmul Abedin Fahim, Assistant Coach, BD U-19 National Team.

I guess grass and moisture on the wicket helped the pacers as far as movement was concerned--so it seemd to Mr. Fahim that the condition of more like NZ. But no-doubt sub-continental condition is helpful for the spinners as NZ Coach said.

Dipak Patel, was definitely giving an excuse for his teams loss against Bangladesh. Fahim on the other hand was giving excuse for our 5/2 loss.
