Default Sri Lanka Thread

Not pertaining to any series. Just SLan stuff. Been a staunch supporter of SL. Wish them all the best. We got one of your coaches.

Default SLC confident of Senanayake return

Sri Lanka Cricket remained confident that their spinner Sachithra Senanayake's action could be remedied, and that he could be reintroduced to international cricket before the World Cup, despite a harsh biomechanical assessment. There has also been displeasure in some parts of Sri Lanka's cricket establishment about Senanayake's testing procedure.

SLC's cricket committee met on Monday to discuss the route forward for Senanayake, but will not arrive at any concrete decisions until the biomechanical report has been unpacked in full over the next few days.

Sri Lanka will have a bit of a challenge in the next couple of years.

Replacing Sanga, Mahela, Dilshan, Herath, Samaraweera and so many other veterans around the same time will be tough.

But they replaced veterans like Arjuna, Aravinda De Silva, Jayasuriya. Although Herath and Mendis are nowhere close to Murali, at least there is no void.

So question is who replaces the current crop of outgoing superstars. Kushal Perera is expected to take over from Dilshan. Looks good, but very unpredictable. Thirimane is the highest rated batsmen and in the Sanga mold. But so far has blown hot and cold. Ashan Priyanjan tries to play like Mahela, but doesnt seem to have the same quality. Chandimal has flopped. Only player who looks assured to take over is Angelo Mathews.

Will be a tough couple of years, but we shouldnt be surprised if they manage to bring a new crop of superstars just like that.

Matthews has taken his game to another level averaging nearly 50 now. The guy is clutch. Their seamers are feeling doing well under Vaas. Vaas is exceptional.

Sangakkara is such a gun. I agree about Matthews his recent ton was quite the special knock and the pacers have now been doing well for awhile so good signs, they've got a lot of batting and spin talent to come through as well.

Only Mathews seems to have improved immensely. If you look at any random scorecard for sri lanka its always either Sanga or Mahela or Dilshan doing the scoring. The batting will struggle a great deal because Sri Lanaka have been giving chances to a lot of new players without anyone really shining for them.

aravinda, murali, vaas, jayasuriya such great players that were so exciting to watch.

it's true mahela, sanga and dilshan still do the bulk of the scoring, mathews is doing better though. chandimal is good in tests. thirimanne and tharanga are being pushed to much as they've had many chances but still remained inconsistent. they need to pursue other options like angelo perera, vithi, kusal in tests, tharindu kaushal the 21 year old spinner.

there is even more talent than i mentioned but SL selectors have got themselves stuck on the same players and not tried other options. chandimal has been doing poorly in the short formats for ages, should have been gone from them but what happened? he got given the t20 captaincy. they just aren't thinking straight.

Very true. The pick of the lot for me is Lahiru Thirimanne. Very calm, mature batsman. But has already played 71 ODI's and still averages less than 30.

One observation abt Sri Lankan cricketers is they mature at a slightly older age. Dilshan for example was in and out till his early 30's, only after he reached a certain age he cemented his place. Sanga only debuted at around 24-25.

they given chances to some players but there are a lot of others they could give chances especially in test cricket.

shehan jayasuriya, vithanage, niroshan dickwella, anglo perera, chaturanga de silva all of these bastmen have pretty solid records in various formats. vithanage has already played 4 tests for a ton and a half ton.

Their pipe line and cricket structure is good. They will churn out decent players from those setup. Now imagine Mahela, Sangga and others; once they get in the business of building players with their camps full-time; what type of knowledge these young ones will have at their disposal? I am not worried for them. The key is, the SLC board milking the greats knowledge and seeding them in to the young ones.

Sanga and Mahela have already opened up their own business following the footsteps of another legend Mohammed Ashraful -- http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/s...w/16556688.cms

On topic, I agree with Jadukor. SL relies heavily on Sanga, Mahela, Dilshan. Matthews started to contributed only recently and the bowling, while improved a lot under Vaas, is still unpredictable. Thirimanne, Chandimal, Kaushal Perera needs to step up and fill in the big shoes. I think Thisara Perera should get more chances. He is a very handy player and should play tests.

i think thisara would need to work on his bowling a bit if he's to play test cricket, his batting is a bit hit and miss so can't be considered an all rounder, at least not in tests....

Would love to see Jaya get a guard of honour in his final match.

he has 3 innings left, needs 150+ runs to end it with an average of 50 or higher, currently averaging 49.98. 11,000+ runs, 30+ centuries, he deserves to end with a 50+ average so i hope he can do it, he'd be the first sri lankan to manage it.

So Ruwan Kalpage will be axed from his assistant coach/fielding coach position.

Atapattu to continue until Pakistan tour later next month. SLC will float an ad for a new coach, Atapattu free to apply for the role.

Normally SLC has budget issue which prevents them from being able to afford anything more than 10-15K USD. But with the World Cup ahead, i bet SLC will increase their offer and look for a more high profile coach. The faith in Atapattu isnt just there. If Haturusinghe didnt take up the BD role, i bet he would have been in their shortlist.

Wow, Chandimal has just been "Ashraful'd" into the A team midway through a Test series. That is unprecedented. The uncapped Dickwella - no pun intended, but what a name, lmao - comes in his place.

Chandimal has 3 hundreds from 12 matches and averages almost 45. Why would they drop him? Has his recent performance been that bad? I know he's one of SL's young guns but still, one would think that would be good enough.

He's really out of sorts at the moment. Poor performances have also made him the laughing stock amongst fans, the same way we make fun of Tamim Dim Parsi.

Talented batsman, but confidence issues, and a lot of bad luck.

Sri Lanka A beat Ireland at belfast.

SL - A posted 283/10 in 50 overs. Richardson got a 5fer.

Ireland was in trouble early and often. 107/8 in 30 overs. Then WKer AD Pynter played a great knock on a losing cause. 109 (89). They were allout 255/9 (one retired Hurt) in 49.4 overs.

Alrighty!! After the Yunus khan 177, it is Sangga making sure this test is a draw. He is at 102 not out and avoided the follow on. 199 behind. Two more days to go. SL 252/2 end of third day.

Jayawardene also got his 50. His 50+ avg should be intact when he decides to hang it up.

We did manage to score 500+ in this pitch as well.
